FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Fuel System Specific Controls (FSSC) is part of the components business unit. We deliver software control solutions to the Engine Business Unit to control both Cummins’ and third-party fuel system hardware.
  • This position covers applied controls engineering services provided to Cummins to develop diagnostics, perform calibration tuning, as well as verification and validation of Fuel System Specific controls. The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and executing diagnostics and calibration tuning procedures on bench, fuel system rigs, engines and vehicles. The position is also responsible for designing tools and/or scripts to analyze the outputs for specific results and documenting and reporting the results to the team to help evaluate performance and risk. The work will be on both CPS and VPI projects.
  • Cummins’ Fuel System Specific Controls’ applied controls team requires one additional engineering resource to support the calibration, verification and validation process of the embedded controls released to our EBU customers.
  • Responsible for designing diagnostics, implementing, and executing diagnostic tuning, verification and validation tests and documenting and analyzing the results on embedded software controls.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of how fuel systems embedded software controls a high pressure common rail fuel system.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting issues and tuning of a high pressure common rail fuel system on various Cummins engines.
  • Responsible for developing and tuning fuel system diagnostics.
  • Submit DCR’s to document software issues.
  • Create and maintain tuning procedures for group’s components.
  • Run FMET(s) (Failure Modes Effects Tests) on bench and vehicles.
  • Perform testing on benches, fuel system rigs, test cells and vehicles to assure the fuel systems software is functioning properly and/or to duplicate problems found by customers.

Day to Day:
  • Focuses on diagnostics primarily- They design and calibrate diagnostic controls
  • Communication with the software team
  • Taking the requirements- read the software and product requirements, give them to the developers and then test
  • Calibrating existing diagnostics, taking a dozen diagnostics to understand architecture calibrating existing diagnostics to meet requirements
  • New diagnostic development
  • Supporting all Cummins Engines

Must Haves:
  • 1+ Controls/Simulation (MATLAB/Simulink) experience

    or degree- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with controls theory project/coursework
  • Automotive background or electronics systems experience or demonstrating real interest in automotive
  • Controls Theory project coursework or something similar
Plus haves:
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical concepts of mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, etc…
  • Experience with reviewing and understanding MATLAB and Simulink simulation.
  • Experience with programming in C or other imperative and procedural languages.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems, especially fuel systems.
  • OBD is a plus
