Title of Position: Landscape Architect Fellow

Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program are seeking an intern who will be placed at the Purdue University Center for Community and Environmental Design within the university's Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. This center creates links between classroom projects and actual community and environmental design proposals. Past projects have included urban tree plantings, development of parks and recreational areas, and linkages to natural resources such as rivers and lakes.

Position Responsibilities will include:

Assist RTCA staff and partners in data gathering, planning analysis, public outreach, and plan creation for park and trail master plans, implementation and strategic plans, schematic level designs and grant applications

Coordinate with project partners to gather data from existing sources for planning documents, such as demographic data, state and county plans and policies, grant sources and requirements

Participate in community outreach activities, such as public events, planning workshops, and community meetings.

Assist in the preparation of outreach materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, brochures, graphics, visualizations and printed displays.

Use ArcGIS to create maps for planning and analysis, using data available on public websites and through partners to layer several data types to create maps of project sites.

Assist staff at Purdue Center for Community and Environmental Design with planning assistance to local municipalities or stakeholder organizations seeking input on concept designs or site planning for natural resource conservation initiatives.

Assist NPS park units in the Midwest with planning, design and construction assistance

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of a Bachelors Degree is required.

Coursework or experience in landscape architecture, architecture, transportation or environmental planning, geography, public affairs, urban or regional studies, park planning or management, or related fields are preferred.

Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).

Technically proficient at Site and Trail Grading Design

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work effectively with a variety of people.

Strong organizational skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
