Description: Cobham Mission systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II - Fuel Tank Inerting to be part of a dynamic multifunctional team in a fast based, aerospace and defense manufacturing environment. The position will include a mix of assistance to manufacturing and new product development activities, and will involve interfacing with Design and Manufacturing engineering. Ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in Aerospace or similar industry and will have knowledge and experience in different design and analysis tools including GD&T, root cause problem solving, design for manufacturing and assembly and non-conformance disposition process. This position is located in Davenport, IA. Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in integrated product development teams.
- Investigate product complaints and non-conformance, perform root cause analysis of failures, and propose remediation in a timely fashion
- Design and analyze complex mechanical and pneumatic components for our Nitrogen generation products.
- Work closely with suppliers on component and product improvement and development.
- Identify potential improvements to existing products, then design, prove-out, and implement changes.
- Interface with procurement team and suppliers to solve problems and develop new sources for components.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers.
- Generate and review drawing using GD&T
- Provide technical expertise to support manufacturing, Field Support Engineers, and customers.
- Evaluate suitability of current products for new applications; work with team to develop bids and proposals for new, modified, or upgraded products.
- Develop test plans to verify models for component and product characteristics.
- Design and analyze packaging for electronic products to be used in harsh environmental conditions.
- Work within team to develop predictive component and product performance models.
- Interface with customers as part of development-team programs.
- Provide innovative ideas for improvements to existing products.
- Participate in ideation for new products and technologies.
- Design products and product improvements in ProEngineer/Creo or by working with Designers using ProEngineer/Creo.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline from an ABET accredited program with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- 2+ years engineering experience
- This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Bio-Medical Engineering
- Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or Bio-Medical engineering degree from an ABET accredited program
- Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action Analysis
- Experience with FMEA, DFMA and Six Sigma analysis and quality tools
- Experience with Creo, CATIA, or SolidWorks and GD&T principles
- Experienced in mechanical equipment design and analysis
- Experience in writing test plans, procedures, and reports
