Field Instructor

New Vision Wilderness Therapy-Northwoods is hiring Full-time and Seasonal Wilderness Field Instructors. Nestled away in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is an opportunity for you to serve as a role model to students aged 11-17 to provide time away from the normal distractions of life while helping adolescents learn about themselves, develop healthy relationships, and support the healing process of childhood developmental trauma.

Wilderness Field Instructors form the cornerstone of NVW's dedicated treatment team, providing a committed and empathetic atmosphere to students who have experienced trauma and are in desperate need of support. An individualized attuned relational approach to highlight student strengths is used; while providing year-round novel experiences such as canoeing, cross country skiing, fishing and canine therapy; to engage students while building self-esteem and providing opportunities for growth.

As a nomadic program, groups are backpacking through the Chequamegon National Forest, moving camp every few days. During the expedition, Wilderness Field Instructors build strong, trusting relationships with our students, showing acceptance and providing opportunities for growth each day. Wilderness Field Instructors walk alongside students teaching them technical skills, relational skills, and work on the four pillars of programing: individual and group therapy, canine therapy, education, and mastery. They work closely with the clinical team and field leadership team to provide the best treatment possible for our students.

Wilderness Field Instructors work an 8 day on/6 day off schedule with the potential to work in all areas of programming (Adolescent, Preteen, Family, Academy, 2:1).

Wilderness Field instructors work with one to two co-instructors to maintain a safe environment, with consistent structure and high-level supervision for up to 9 students in a wilderness setting. Responsibilities include direct care and supervision, risk management, implementation of program philosophy, leadership and responsible decision making, professional communication, completion of daily paperwork, weekly planning of group activities, and any other duties as defined by the Field Director.
