Function of Position: Responsible to the Director of Athletics for the development and oversite of the newly announced Esports program. The Esports Head Coach is responsible for short term startup of new program and long-term growth of the program including planning, recruiting qualified students for competitive varsity level teams, overseeing practice preparation, and the scheduling of intercollegiate matches and tournaments. The coach must demonstrate a vision for a collegiate Esports program at Wartburg College that supports the College’s Mission and Vision.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruitment and retention of qualified Esport student-athletes;
- The organization and supervision of team practices and training;
- Oversight of student athletes’ academic and social success;
- Ensures ongoing eligibility of student-athletes in the Esports program and monitors their academic progress;
- Management of the program’s budget and fundraising;
- Oversee the development of both a highly competitive varsity program and club team;
- Secondary job duties assigned by Athletic Director based on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred with relevant experience required
- Excellent working knowledge of Esports
- Must demonstrate strong leadership, role-modeling, organizational and interpersonal skills; and effective teaching methods
- Previous coaching and recruitment experience preferred
- Commitment to the welfare, physical, mental and social development of student-athletes
