Job Description

SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will report to the ITW Controller and be responsible for performing detailed accounting to support and meet our financial reporting and control requirements. This position will be based out of the Division Headquarters in Olathe, Kansas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform cash posting for accounts receivable and the recording/collection of customer invoices as well as manage collection of delinquent accounts for our business unit in Easton, MD.
  • Perform accounts payable to ensure timely payment of invoices and support T&E card and P-card programs and the associated journal entries for our business unit in Easton, MD.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and ensure that all expenditures are within the capital expenditure guidelines.
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of balance sheet, income statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position for all locations within the division.
  • Support timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of all operational management accounts.
  • Assist in providing schedules and commentary with respects to gross margin and operating expense accounts including results and variances and associated justification.
  • Identify accounting errors, research technical issues, and proactively resolve issues.
  • Monitor inventory transactions to isolate items requiring a review of bill of material, scrap factor, or processing issues.
  • Participate in year-end reporting, yearly tax kit, and internal audit.
  • Share responsibility with Operations on physical inventories and cycle count programs for all locations.
  • Assist with the coordination and application of accounting and accounting control procedures essential to a favorable audit outcome.
  • Partner with multiple departments throughout the organization regarding budget reviews, operational challenges, and transactional processes.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the financial operations of the manufacturing facilities and the impact on the financial success of the organization.
  • Apply ITW Principles and Enterprise Strategy to eliminate complexity and improve performance indicators within area of responsibility.
  • Maintain focus on continuous improvement by applying 80/20 principles to drive process improvement and make recommendations to management.
  • Foster, communicate and exemplify the values of ITW; act with integrity and trust, operate with simplicity, treat everyone with respect, and take shared risk.
  • Perform special projects deemed necessary by management team and any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business plus 2-3 years of related experience
  • Experience working with information technology, ERP systems, and proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products. Advanced Excel skills required.
