Location:Overland Park, KS

Duration:12-month with expectations to be extended. Conversion to a fulltime resource is on the table.Senior Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the management of production and non- production databases; database maintenance activities; database security measures; troubleshooting database-related issues; monitoring of database capacity and performance; installation, administration, and configuration of database server/instances/databases. This includes on prem and cloud Microsoft SQL, IBM Db2, and Oracle Databases; Support release/code deployment activities; Cloud/Azure Database and Usage Cost Optimization. The Senior DBA reports to the Infrastructure IT Manager and acts as a primary interface to senior IT and business management for all security engineering matters. This position involves both hands-on technical work, and time spent consulting and advising on database related needs across the organization. The Senior DBA is a key player in a high-performance team to deliver security related digital objectives set for IT by business partners.

Essential Functions
  • Implement, monitor, upgrade and support all existing SQL and Oracle databases. Full understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems as well as functional knowledge of Database management tools. Analyze database performance reports to identify expensive database operations and make suggestions to Developers on potential pain points.
  • Build, update and maintain on-prem and cloud server environments. Understand server administration be able to configure and maintain all aspects of Scoular’s data centers. Understand and administer all I.T. infrastructure services. Work with all hypervisors and in-depth knowledge of all Windows Servers versions as well as Linux operating systems. Monitor storage, resource utilization, and server logs and address issues in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Development teams and Infrastructure support teams working as point on all technical issues until resolved. Understand who to contact, in order to resolve issues in a timely manner. This will include internal experts as well as outside consultants. Create healthy relationships between support teams with open communication.
  • Develop and monitor a fully functioning Disaster Recovery plan. Test and document on a regular basis ensuring full availability in the event of a disaster. Document all processes and procedures involved with recovery of databases.
  • Provide full documentation on all activity with production, dev and test environments. Document all troubleshooting techniques as well as the solutions to issues. Requirements

    Minimum
  • 5-8 years of experience as a successful database administrator of Microsoft SQL (mix of on prem and Azure)
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of relevant experience with Tier 2/3 end user support.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture and data frameworks and best practices
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Detail understanding of SQL language including DDL, DQL, DML, DCL.
  • Great interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Strong written communication including presentation skills
  • Professional planning and organizational skills
  • Good understanding of LAN and WAN technologies,3-5 years preferred
  • Experience with virtualization (e.g., VMware,VDI), 2-4 years preferred
  • Experience partnering with peers to find an appropriate balance between operations and security
  • Capable of analyzing large amounts of disparate data to produce easily understandable content for leadership

Preferred
  • Bachelors’ degree with 3-5 years of IT experience or Masters’ degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, system analysis or a related field of study with 5 to 8 years of IT experience
  • Experience with Oracle and IBM DB2 Databases
  • Ability to communicate technical information in understandable business terms
