Responsibilities include designing, building, testing, and implementing solutions that are productive and safe to operate as well as economical to purchase and maintain. This position reports to the site Manager, Automation and is matrixed into the Global Automation team. This position requires collaboration with site resources and relevant center Automation experts to support the deployment of robotic / automation systems to mitigate our labor risk. Responsibility is to assist site in achieving their Automation productivity goals and to ensure all deployed equipment is compliant with corporate standards with the intent of improving safety, quality, and productivity.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in standing up automation projects using innovative manufacturing concepts focused on process improvement

Responsible for the design, quotation, installation, and commissioning of automation projects, with a successful pass off and launch partnership with Operations

Review and critique product designs for cost and manufacturability

Examine and assess the business case and tradeoffs of using new innovative manufacturing concepts

Assess manufacturing processes for the feasibility of use of collaborative and industrial robot applications

Create, compile, and document requirements for automated solutions, including hardware and software dependencies and requirements

Recommend physical changes to manufacturing facility to support equipment installation

Assist in soliciting quotations, qualifying suppliers, and selecting equipment vendors

Pilot and debug robotic manufacturing processes for production-based environments

Support the installation of robotic and automation solutions

Facilitate project management with integrators

Manage projects to ensure on time and on budget delivery

Drive to attain productivity goals and achieve targets

Identify training needs of the automation and operations team and develop training plans

Provide coaching and constructive feedback to create success within the team

Communicate clearly and effectively with cross functional teams to ensure alignment and success of projects

Collaborate with Safety and Operations professionals to ensure successful management of change

Manage and direct the activities of on shift Automation Technicians

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Robotics Engineering, Controls, or Mechanical Engineering

3+ years of experience in a related field.

2+ years of experience using robotic simulation programs (Fanuc RoboGuide preferred) for design and simulation

1+ years of experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for design and simulation of ancillary tooling

Preferred Qualifications

Background and knowledge in automated manufacturing systems

Industrial and collaborative robot experience with associated peripheral equipment (vision systems, force gauges, end of arm tooling options, safety accommodations, etc.)

Experience with design and implementation of safety systems in robotic applications

2D & 3D CAD skills such as floor layouts and tooling designs

Familiar with PLC programming (Allen Bradley/Siemens)

Ability to create prototypes and simulations utilizing Fanuc RoboGuide software

Fanuc robot programming skills including integration of ancillary equipment and devices

Excellent communication skills, able to explain automation concepts well

Priority of the plant is to meet existing manufacturing demands as the environment transitions to a LEAN / PEAK environment.
