The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air
Reserve Technician (ART); must meet all requirements of the
Personal Reliability Program for controlled PRP positions.
Performs troubleshooting on a variety of complete operational
aircraft reciprocating or gas turbine engines in aircraft on the
flight line, or rebuilt or modified engines in test cells.
Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles aircraft engines, their
assemblies and components.
Uses a variety of test equipment, hand and power tools; utilizes
safety practices and procedures following established safety
rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.
Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program.
Removes or installs entire propulsion systems from/on aircraft
working as a member or leader of an engine change team.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the
OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 -
Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and
experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must
meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and
training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill
necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for
which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on
the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.The screen out element for this position is to do the job of an
Aircraft Engine Mechanic without more than normal supervision.JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis
of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in
the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the installation, operation, and repair of gas
turbine or reciprocating aircraft engines and accessory systems.
2. Knowledge of engine repair practices to identify and correctly
choose between alternative methods and trade techniques, adapt
accepted repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engines or accessory
systems, to anticipate required tools and parts, and to set up the
work area.
3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of documentation procedures.
4. Skill in the use of measuring instruments such as vibration
analyzers, pyrometers, engine analyzers, engine diagnostic computer
systems, data transfer sets, and test benches. Skill in the
interpretation and use of technical orders, manufacturers' manuals,
engine records, maintenance bulletins, and other technical
information
5. Ability to troubleshoot engine malfunctions, interpret trouble
reports or observed instrument readings, appearances, etc., make a
tentative diagnosis; select needed tools and test equipment; and
disassemble the engine or accessory system to locate the defect.
6. Ability to repair and rework engine parts and components and
replace accessories such as portions of electrical, pneumatic, and
hydraulic systems. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its
certification procedures.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:May be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours,
weekends, etc. May be required to obtain special certification
training (i.e., Red X, engine run, etc.) and security clearance.
Incumbent may be required to travel in military or commercial
aircraft when TDY is necessary and to support Air Expeditionary
Force (AEF) contingencies. May be required to performs other related
duties and shop details, as assigned.This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is
required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work
schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in
unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments
are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART
duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total
responsibilities. May be required to fly in commercial and military
aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.
This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Employee is subject
to random drug testing.
Incumbent must maintain PRP status as a condition of employment
and must qualify for and maintain the appropriate security clearance
as well as maintaining all other PRP requirements for a controlled
position.FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop,
bend, and reach. Frequently handles items weighing up to 10 pounds,
and often lift and carry assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to
assist when handling heavy or awkward items. May be required to
climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined
surfaces.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work is performed in clean, well lighted, and well ventilated
production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are
drafty, cold, hot, and noisy, such as aircraft hangars. Stands on
concrete or hard composition floors for long periods of time.
Frequently exposed to grease and solvents, to noise from jet
engines, drills and hammers, and to the possibility of cuts and
abrasions from handling tools. Occasionally exposed to shop / flight
line hazards.PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for
appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify
the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5,
United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal
