May also perform library tasks, such as the development of information resource pathfinders or retrieving materials from local libraries.SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOBThe duties and tasks associated with fact-checking, permissions acquisition, and library services require professional-level skills and experience and have considerable variety and complexity. Works on problems ranging from limited to moderate scope. Coordinates, prioritizes, and multitasks for 5 deadline demands.Skills/knowledge/abilities required

Superior knowledge of research principles, sources, techniques, and documentation. Knowledge of library-industry best practices, and cataloging classification, indexing, and abstracting techniques and systems

Knowledge of how to apply and interpret information in print and online reference sources and how to use standard library databases and encyclopedias, journal databases, government resources, and ready reference sources

Superior knowledge and understanding of the research principles, reference sources, and techniques that can be used to locate rightsholders

Professionally tailored oral and written communication skills; ability to maintain professional demeanor under challenging circumstances

Ability to effectively and efficiently work both independently and in a team environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Research and Fact-Checking 60%

Verify facts and descriptive information in test items and stimuli across all content areas, including language arts, science, math, and social studies.

Research topics and perform fact-checking as required.

Document and save copies of sources used for fact-checking in prescribed electronic format.

Maintain all tracking and documentation of fact-checking work per business or customer requirements.

Perform other fact-checking duties as assigned.

Copyright permissions 20%

Track and coordinate the acquisition of permissions for third-party copyrighted text, image, and multimedia selections in support of assessment development projects. Use the item authoring system, (ABBI), spreadsheets, and a custom database system to maintain detailed project records. Coordinate the creation and distribution of invoices and track them through the payment process.

Be the primary contact for researching and verifying public domain status.

Research copyright ownership through publishers, authors, and literary agents and by using websites, periodicals, and library-reference and public-records databases.

Monitor the status of all passages, scenarios, and other copyrighted stimuli from initial development through the publication stage.

Track and provide acknowledgements (credit lines, permissions lines, or captions) for publication.

Project administration 20%

Serve as lead point of contact for assigned projects; evaluate and recommend work process and inform schedules.

Use project schedules and team calendars to independently prioritize work and multitask for multiple projects.

Develop documentation or assist in the development of processes and documentation, as required.

Work closely with test development managers, project managers, and other content developers.

Library Services

Assist with library tasks, including the development of information resource guides and literature searches, such as obtaining journal articles and other materials from local libraries.

Other Duties as Assigned

May assist with special initiatives and ancillary efforts as appropriate and required

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in any field is required. Master’s degree in library and information science is strongly preferred; however, enrollment in a course of study toward the library science degree, with coursework in reference, research, and information organization already completed, may be considered. Juris Doctorate or background and experience as a paralegal will also be considered.

Significant experience performing research is required, preferably in a library or other information services position.

Solid understanding of copyright law is highly preferred.

Experience working concurrently on multiple projects or tasks with challenging deadlines is preferred.

Experience in large-scale educational measurement and especially item development is preferred.

Must have strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to follow instructions and process.

Must have careful attention to detail.

Must have a firm commitment to meeting challenging deadlines.

Must be comfortable with using software and online technologies; will be required to use a variety of proprietary platforms, including Pearson’s item authoring platform. Must have strong experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Viseo, One Note, One Drive, Outlook, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Must have superior digital-research capability.

Must be comfortable with communicating via phone, e-mail, and videoconference with colleagues and project teams in multiple offices at different locations.
