Dorsey Development is a multi-state commercial real estate developer and commercial general contractor. Dorsey is conveniently located on Causeway Blvd., in Metairie, Louisiana.

Dorsey is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator who is a career-oriented individual interested in growing with the company.

The candidate will have a track record of proven leadership abilities as well as commercial general construction estimating and pre-construction experience.

Commercial Construction Estimator

Responsibilities

Assist in pre-construction of projects as directed (value engineering, coordination with design team,

communication with subs / suppliers)

Review and understand plans and specification of construction projects, identify key trades, and prepare

estimates for bidding as General Contractor

Prepare construction budgets, estimates, and proposals

Produce accurate scope identification for assigned bid sections

Preliminary cost estimates

Maintain Sub / Supplier contact list to ensure adequate number of bids are received

Select appropriate subs / suppliers to invite for each bid from the vendor database; Send out initial invitation

to bid

Constructability reviews

Provide accurate quantity survey and estimate the amount and type of material required to deliver the

contracted specifications.

Project scheduling

Communicate with contractors on jobs regarding ordering, scheduling, and issues that may arise

Ensure all bidders are licensed, insured, and or bonded, as required for each project

Purchases materials for projects based on bids

Participate in the value engineering process

Skills & Proficiencies

Strong organizational, interpersonal, writing and speaking, management and math skills

Proven analytical and interpretive skills in preparing comprehensive, accurate and strategic bids and

estimates

Complete understanding of bid documents

Ability to communicate effectively with office and field personalities, internally and externally

Strong proficiency with Excel preferred - be comfortable with creating standard and custom Excel formulas

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, and Outlook

Proficiency with CPM scheduling, with experience in Microsoft Project, Primavera, or other scheduling

platforms

Familiarity with bid solicitation platforms (BuildingConnected, ISqFt, etc)

Ability to work independently and manage own work load with minimal supervision or direction

Must understand how to properly evaluate subcontractors and vendor proposals

Solid understanding of commercial construction estimating, blueprints, and the bidding process

Operationally focused; detailed oriented but able to grasp big picture

Possess a commitment to excellence

Qualifications

Bachelors in Construction Management, Engineering or allied field

Minimum 3-5 years of construction estimating required

Experience in Procore, Bluebeam and Microsoft Project are preferred

Contract Administration not required, but a plus

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen

Must possess a current and valid state drivers license and a clean driving record
