A successful non-profit seeks a Registered Nurse to attend the needs of elderly religious brothers.
The Saint Pauls Community located in Covington, Louisiana, is searching for a Registered Nurse. The primary role of the Registered Nurse is to work in collaboration with the District Healthcare Coordinator and the Brother Directors in both attending to the health care needs and supervision of staff of the St. Pauls Community, as well as attending to the healthcare needs of the Charles Crouzet Community and Christian Brothers School Community residents. This is a full time position including some weekends and holidays. The Christian Brothers are members of a Catholic religious order.
De La Salle Institutes (DLSI) purpose is to serve and support the Brothers, Partners and Apostolates of the San Francisco New Orleans District of the Christian Brothers, whose mission is a human and Christian education for the young, especially the poor. The Saint Pauls, Charles Crouzet and Christian Brothers Communities belong to DLSI, a religious nonprofit organization. Under the direction of the District Healthcare Coordinator and the Brother Directors the successful candidate will perform the following duties:
Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the Brothers while administering quality patient care
Supervises all healthcare, kitchen, housekeeping personnel involved in the day to day care and service to the retired Christian Brothers including providing disciplinary action and counseling when appropriate
Assists with hiring of all personnel for St. Pauls retirement community
Provides job skill training for CNAs, kitchen personnel, and housekeeping personnel as needed
Accesses community services to meet the individual needs of the Brothers with special consideration and emphasis on the St. Pauls Community
Evaluates healthcare needs of the individual Brothers in Louisiana with special emphasis on the St. Pauls retirement community as a whole
Notifies District Healthcare Coordinator of any concerns regarding healthcare personnel
Notifies District Healthcare Coordinator of any Brothers change of condition
Maintains accurate and current health data on the Christian Brothers in TabulaPro Database System
Assesses the individual Brothers and documents changes in TabulaPro
Answers questions from Brothers in other communities as the need arises
Advises individual Brothers regarding health care needs, alternatives, changes in managing their healthcare and personal needs; takes action where appropriate and necessary and/or requested
Provides individual health screenings on a regular basis
Communicates with physicians regarding individual needs for the Brothers
Escorts Brothers to medical appointments as needed
Accesses community services to meet the individual needs of the Brothers
Provides first aid care as needed
Provides wound care as needed
Assists Brothers with ADLs as needed
Provides relief for Certified Nursing Assistants as needed
Educates individual Brothers on changes in medications and health care plans
Assists in ongoing safety and disaster management
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent documentation skills
Demonstrated assessment and critical thinking skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Ability to learn new software and database technology
Must be able to relate positively and favorably to the Brothers and to work cooperatively with others
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Self-starter; ability to manage time and meet deadlines with minimal guidance
Ability to adjust to changing priorities
Excellent professional courtesy and manner with all external and internal contacts
Basic operation of printer, copier/scanner, online fax program
Willingness to grow in understanding of the Lasallian mission and heritage
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program
BS preferred
Current and active Louisiana Registered Nurse License
Minimum of two years of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse, at least one year of which must be in provision of direct resident care in a nursing facility
Current CPR certification
