Marie Joseph Spiritual Center in Biddeford Pool, ME is a Roman Catholic 501(c)(3) non-profit retreat center sponsored by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. The Center seeks a highly skilled, motivated and organized Maintenance Worker. Under general supervision perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled work ensuring all aspects of the buildings, grounds and equipment is functioning efficiently, safely and effectively.

40 hours/week, some weekend/evening hours necessary in emergency situations such as snow removal, minor plumbing repairs, etc.

This position is a hands-on position responsible for performing routine inspections of buildings, grounds and equipment; regular preventive maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment; snow removal; minor electrical and plumbing repair/installation; clogged drain; leak repair; painting; grounds-keeping, etc.

Requirements:

High School or equivalent; Technical School certifications and/or training preferred.

Current valid state driver's license, in good standing. Must be able to provide 5 year driving record.

5 or more years building and grounds maintenance experience.

Proficient skills in the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, ground keeping, appliance repair and electrical wiring; OSHA safety practices and procedures related to the building trades.

Ability to identify, troubleshoot and solve problems relating to building, ground and equipment maintenance and repair.

Effectively and safely operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools as well as landscape/snow removal equipment.

Knowledge of safety rules, hazards & application of accident prevention measures.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to interpret miscellaneous drawings, blue prints and schematics.

Communicates effectively in both oral and written form.

Follows oral and/or written instructions and completes work assignments with a minimum of supervision.

Strong organizational and time management skills. Able to multi-task and work well under pressure.

Able to problem solve. Recognize problem situation, act to prevent adverse reactions and bring to resolution.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work assignments, ie other staff members, guests, contractors, and vendors.

Must be flexible and available to work the necessary hours to meet the needs of a 24 hour establishment.

Able to use general office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computers, telephone, photocopy machine and facsimile machine.

Maintain confidentiality.

Able to show initiative and self-direction.

Must be able to routinely lift and carry heavy items in order to perform the essential job functions.

Has an appreciation for and supports the values and ministry of the Retreat Center.
