This position is open to current Maine DOC applicants who wish to transfer to this facility and all outside candidates.This is a year-round, 224 day position. The primary purpose of this position is to instruct students in the theory and practical application of the business workforce in preparation for post-secondary education/career pathways. Through a blend of academic and vocational instruction, applied learning, and work site experience, our students acquire the career skills and the academic knowledge that will ensure success in their chosen career and in post-secondary education. The challenge in this position will be to develop, implement and instruct this curriculum, along with serving as a liaison to the community and a mentor to students.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Instructs students in technical/vocational subjects in order to equip students with employable skills.

Develops and updates course curriculum and individual education plans for each student in order to provide effective learning.

Monitors and evaluates student progress in order to ensure student leaning objectives are attained.

Prepares and maintains student records and reports in order to document student progress and provide information.

Counsels individual students in order to resolve learning problems.

Formulates and maintains a grading system in order to equitably judge and document student progress and provide information.

Counsels individual students in order to resolve learning problems.

Formulates and maintains a grading system in order to equitably judge and document student effort against an established standard.

Knowledge of contemporary and emerging hardware and software systems.

Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, and techniques.

Ability to maintain application of welding skills used within educational programs.

Ability to evaluate student progress and performance.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports.

Ability to develop course curricula and lesson plans.

Ability to maintain discipline

Additional Responsibilities include but not limited to the following

Provides instruction for students in Business and Community education

Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports

Maintains student discipline through adherence to accepted school policies and regulations

Assists students in the development of desirable work habits, attitudes and skills

Follow Maine State Frameworks and approved industry curriculum

Establishes the career area, curriculum and oversight of daily operations

Prepares lesson plans in accordance with curriculum

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated

Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Education or a related field – OR – a completed apprenticeship and three (3) years of employment in the specific subject area – OR – a two (2) year certificate from a technical institution and three (3) years of employment in the specific subject area - OR – a high school diploma or GED and six (6) years of employment in the specific subject area.The ideal candidate will possess a State of Maine, Department of Education, Vocational Endorsement or will be eligible for a conditional Endorsement or other appropriate certificate as approved by the DOE.LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).Maine Teacher's Certificate in vocational education as issued by the Department of Education.
