Librarian and Computer Resource Teacher for 60 Elementary students and 3 groups of Pre-K and Kindergarten children, who visit the library only on Fridays.
Opportunity for Full or Part Time
Purpose: To facilitate research related to the Elementary curriculum, to provide appropriate reading materials and to foster a love of reading and language in children ages 2 ½ - 12 years of age; to maintain and further develop the Library collection, and to serve as the computer resource for students, faculty and staff.
Qualifications:
BA or BS in Education, Computer Science, or related field.
Knowledge of Montessori education philosophy, or interest in learning.
At least 3 years library experience working with children 2 ½ - 12.
Meets school/state health requirements, including TB test, immunizations, physical exam, CPR certification and first aid training.
Successful passage of a criminal background check as required by the Office of Child Care.
Submit necessary documents to complete personnel file, including references, diploma(s).
Skills:
Detailed knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and its application to our whole-number system.
Detailed knowledge of the Librarys software system, especially circulation, cataloging, and searching.
Extensive knowledge of childrens literature
Ability to work with children ages 2 ½ through 12 years old
Ability to establish rapport with, and show respect and kindness for, the children and co-workers
Ability to lead children to independent proficiency at research tasks rather than performing tasks for them.
Willingness to be trained in AMI Montessori philosophy
Willingness to coordinate with the Elementary and Primary programs.
Ability and willingness to provide language and literature enrichment to broaden the classroom experience.
Ability to speak clearly and precisely
Working knowledge of the Internet.
Knowledge of current computer systems and programs.
Ability to troubleshoot and evaluate equipment and software problems.
Ability to observe the children scientifically and objectively.
Ability to teach computer concepts and skills clearly.
