Sr. Systems Integration Test Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Integration Engineer to join our Commercial Aviation Network Solutions division located in Annapolis, MD.

Job Summary

The System Integration Engineer will primarily perform integration and system acceptance testing in the later phases of the software development lifecycle and will also be involved in the up-front requirements and design phases. Validation of customer requirements and verification of technical requirements will be performed on our core aviation datalink service. This service provides air/ground data communications for airlines and business aviation, enabling the exchange of information from airborne subsystems to ground-based computers anywhere in the world. This is done by using VHF, HF, and satellite based radio links and our private global network.

The system is very complex and is subject to continuous change as technologies and service offerings evolve. System components in the test environment include network management applications, relational database servers, real-time applications, and a variety of simulation tools.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform test design including development of operational scenarios when reviewing technical requirements and design packages.
  • Develop well-written system integration and acceptance test plans and procedures with clear objectives and traceability to requirements.
  • Integrate hardware and software components into the system test environment.
  • Build-up and maintain the test environment laboratory, including test simulation and analysis tools.
  • Conduct formal integration and system-level testing, including Factory Acceptance Testing to meet contractual obligations.
  • Perform verification of functional and performance requirements in a production-like test environment using a variety of simulation test tools.
  • Perform validation of installation procedures and user documentation to ensure for a seamless integration into a high-availability system environment.
  • Identify and report bugs and issues found during integration and test activities.
  • Prepare well-written test reports for stakeholder review and participation in project closure activities.
Basic Qualifications:

• Three (3) to six (6) years of experience in applicable engineering fields such as systems engineering, system integration/test, or software development/test on complex, highly available systems.• Experience preparing or analyzing system documentation including system requirements, system design, operational scenarios, and system test plans/procedures.• Experience in the development of functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation.• Experience in identifying areas of technical risk and developing mitigation strategies.

• Experience utilizing internal processes, methods and tools for systems development and documentation efforts. Review defect trends for ways to reduce similar defects in the future.• Ability to identify and isolate error conditions during test execution and work to resolve matters quickly.• Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects simultaneously which may be diverse.• Ability to take on work assignments with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm and innovation.• Ability to communicate effectively with other engineers and internal/external customers.• Ability to act as a mentor to more-junior engineers.• Must have strong analytical, technical writing, and team skills.

Desirable Skills:

• Knowledge of integration and system test methodologies and CMMI for Development processes.

• Experience with Linux OS, internetworking protocols, and relational databases, network management, and real-time applications.

• Basic knowledge of system architecture concepts for highly available systems.

• Experience using simulation tools/scripts in a system integration test laboratory

• Experience performing system integration of hardware and software components into a highly available system.

• Experience performing requirements-based and acceptance testing on complex systems following full development lifecycle processes.

Required Education:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM), preferably in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer

Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
