What will you be doing? As an Optical Network Engineer, you will focus on the migration of legacy WAN SONET and optical networking to modernize the infrastructure in support of this government program. The successful candidate will evaluate the current Defense Information Systems Network infrastructure and propose and develop new technologies that will be used to support the network moving forward Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate openly and frankly with all internal and external partners, such as Government Engineers, Contractor Engineers, Contractor Operations staff, Management, and 3rd party vendors
  • Work independently, including the self-management of projects. Help others and ask for help without hesitation.
  • Ensure timely delivery of all Service Requests and projects, removing any obstacles to completing work as scheduled
  • Perform risk analysis of each Service Request and projects, and inform all stakeholders of the applicable risks
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership on the SONET and Optical network needs of the DISN environment
  • conduct virtual site surveys including but not limited to OSS and WWOLS-R systems IOT identify workflows in:
    • Service design
    • Service order and management service provisioning as related to this project
    • Service quality management
  • Develop solutions to design and record the following:
    • High level topology
    • Node installation overview
    • Port and services tables
    • Circuit tables
    • Revision history
  • Evaluate automation opportunities to improve maintenance of transport solutions, associated tools and databases
  • Evaluate and propose technology, solutions and strategy to assist in the replacement of legacy technology
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Proven experience supporting, installing, and designing Sonet and optical network solutions
  • Experience with ODXC and MSPP devices
  • Experience creating technical documentation for system solutions and infrastructure
  • Maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Bachelors degree with 10+ years of experience
  • Current DoD IAT Level II Certification
  • ITIL v3 Master Qualification certification is desired
  • Previous experience supporting service provider infrastructure a plus
