The Center to Promote Effective Youth Development (Youth-Nex) in the Curry School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for multiple PART-TIME positions located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Hours for these positions will vary depending on the schools involved; hires can expect to work between 16-30 hours per week.

The Baltimore Research Coordinator position works with subjects/students enrolled in an Institute of Educational Services research project being conducted within participating public school systems in Maryland. The research study focuses on creating safe and supportive school environments for middle school students and on evaluating the effects of interventions on improving student performance and behavioral outcomes.

Incumbents will be collecting data in middle school classrooms using two measures. One of those measures is the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) Secondary scoring system that assesses the success of classroom interactions. CLASS certification will need to be successfully completed in order to properly perform the role and will be paid for by the department should you be selected for hire.

Research Coordinators will work approximately 8 to 12 weeks in the Spring of 2020 beginning in mid to late February with mandatory trainings and reliability testing. Observational data collection will begin in March 2020 and run through May to early June of 2020. Duties include scheduling and completing computerized classroom observations and administering, scoring and coding achievement tests.

Position Compensation: $16.00 per hour

This is an at-will wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. Requirements include:

-Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

-Reliable transportation to be able to travel between schools in Anne Arundel County, MD.

-Availability to work at least 2 days per week during school hours (Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm).

-Ability to use and perform basic troubleshooting of technology; including video cameras, laptops and tablets is essential.

-Exceptional organization skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

-Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preference will be given to candidates with some coursework or experience in early childhood education or social science research.
