Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist

Maryland, Baltimore 00000 Baltimore USA

Vacancy expired!

WE ARE HIRING IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE US!

FCD Prevention Works (fcd.org), a part of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, is the leading international nonprofit provider of school-based substance abuse prevention services. We provide intensive classroom-based education for students, as well as training and consultation for parents, faculty and staff at schools across the U.S. and around the world, in over 70 countries on five continents.

FCD is currently seeking highly-qualified professionals for the position of Prevention Specialist. Our team of FCD Prevention Specialists work with students and school communities around the globe, engaging them in educational programs that are flexibly designed to stimulate dialogue and self-awareness, promote healthy decision-making, and encourage non-use for students. Experienced Prevention Specialists are also responsible for effectively guiding school communities through comprehensive prevention planning efforts.

This position requires that the candidate be in long-term, healthy recovery from the disease of addiction, as our educational programs include sharing personal knowledge and experience to make a positive difference in the lives of young people, their families, and their school communities.

Other requirements are as follows:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in a related discipline

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Superb presentation skills

Computer proficiency, especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

Comfort with sharing your personal story of addiction and recovery with a variety of audiences

Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally for assignments

Ability to work effectively in many settings with a variety of groups and cultures

Experience working with youth and/or within a school setting

Foreign language fluency (especially Spanish) is also desirable.

This is a part time position, and 99% of the work occurs during the academic year (September-June). There is opportunity to grow into a half- or three-quarters-time position during the academic year. Candidates should be able to work flexibly on a per-diem basis as needed by FCD’s scheduling requirements. Extensive travel, sometimes for a week or more at a time, will be required.

Initial interviews with FCD Prevention Works will occur beginning February 2020 for positions for the 2020-21 academic year. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of extensive onsite training that will occur mid to late August. Work would then begin in September.

To apply, please send a resume and a cover letter including a description of your personal experience with addiction and recovery, no later than May 29, 2020.
