The IT DevOps organization is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and service delivery-oriented Azure Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our IT DevOps Underwriting team. The team is responsible for providing DevOps support for our underwriting, electronic documents, and digital communication systems in GEICO delivering infrastructure in Azure, automatic deployment of services, establishing appropriate monitoring & alerting, and environmental support to ensure a fault-tolerant, reliable, and highly available environment for our internal and external customers. The candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for application onboarding, infrastructure provisioning, deployment automation, ITSM onboarding, maintain the environment for compliance, availability, optimized cloud cost while providing full application development lifecycle support across all environments including production support as per industry best practices and internal standards and controls.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading projects from inception to implementation in a robust, timely, and cost-effective manner. To be an effective engineer of this group, the candidate must be able to provide direction and feedback during design/topology reviews, think strategically, have a strong desire to ensure that the team meets the highest standards in triage, analysis, and project management. Position requires solid experience in building partnerships with business stakeholders, development teams, analysts, architecture, automation, enterprise security, and internal Incident response teams to identify, design, and implement automated and efficient solutions and provide technical solutions, environmental operational support, triage, and remediate issues maximizing efficiency and availability of the platform on a day to day basis while also embracing agile/scrum methodologies and building DevOps culture and practices.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skillsets:

Technical Qualifications:
  • Strong, proven experience as a DevOps engineer in a scalable production environment built on Azure.
  • 2-3 years of experience supporting complex business applications in a large enterprise environment as per DevOps principles in an Agile environment.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Azure cloud environments & its offerings (PaaS, SaaS or IaaS) to design, document, and implement highly scalable and reliable infrastructure solutions.
  • Proven experience with PowerShell Scripting for administration and automation, working with APIs, Microservices in Kubernetes, maintaining infrastructure in Windows and RedHat servers.
  • Proven experience in supporting .NET & C# development lifecycle for enterprise-level applications in an Agile environment.
  • Proven experience multi-tasking by balancing the delivery of multiple simultaneous projects, working with applications teams to deliver hosting platforms with aggressive timelines.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting issues across multiple applications and platforms.
  • Willing and being able to excellent provide support 24x7 for the platform on an on-call rotation basis.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Azure and application infrastructure-related activities is a must.

Soft Skills:
  • Proven experience with Agile practices, methodologies (Sprint planning, Daily Scrums, Backlog grooming, and updating ADO artifacts to ensure work is tracked appropriately) and Atlassian Products (Jira, Confluence, Service Desk).
  • Strong conceptualization abilities, detailed oriented, critical/analytical thinking & troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently and deliver consistent results to difficult problems.
  • Strong team player with a desire to learn by collaborating with peers and other DevOps teams.
  • Effective organization and communication skills, both written and verbal to the extent of communicating technical issues to non-technical stakeholders eloquently.

Preferred:
  • Proven experience working with an offshore team to cover night and weekend shifts.
  • Proven experience in supporting cloud solutions across PaaS and IaaS platforms for cloud services, AKS services using SQL, ASB, CosmosDB, Redis Cache, App Insights, Log analytics, and other 3rd party software's like Splunk, Dynatrace, Mulesoft.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts(DNS/DHCP/Firewalls/Sub-netting, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field.
  • Microsoft Certifications (Microsoft Azure preferred).
  • Proven experience in coaching and mentoring junior and offshore team members.

Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home in a designated work area. Once GEICO determines it is safe for associates to return to the office, candidates may be required to work in our Chevy Chase, MD office.
