GEICO is seeking a Technical Solutions Architect with deep diverse experience who can evaluate technical architectures and high-level design translating them into specifications that drive software development.

Our Technical Solution Architect is responsible for influencing technical strategy, creating overarching design, and driving implementation excellence through delivery teams. The focus is on technical decisions and how they impact business outcomes. You will harness both a deep understanding of business context and technical expertise to create a cohesive software design. In addition, you will leverage significant people and process skills to represent your domain to various levels of business and technology leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Understand, interpret, and create designs that implement capability solutions based on architecture created at the enterprise architecture level
  • Manage activities that take place during solution ideation, solution design, and solution implementation
  • Develop Proof-of-Concept (PoCs) to validate architectures
  • Effectively communicate technical design solutions to software developers conducting design reviews to ensure code solutions align to overall solution design and quality expectations.
  • Work with the Business Solution Architect to resolve conflicts between design and code solutions
  • Develop and executes solutions which reduces the percentage of time spent on reactive work.
  • Engage with mid and senior levels of technical and business leadership with clear communication, appropriate levels of context and explanation, using visual and data representations when needed, to effect decisions and direction for solution design, bridging the gap between business and IT
  • Partner with dev teams to guide and support design, implementation and operation of the solutions
  • Account for non-functional aspects of systems and solutions (NFRs)
  • Ensures solutions meet cyber security requirements
  • Responsible for contributing to the IT Architecture practice that continually seeks to evolve to meet business and technology changes
  • Develop domain roadmaps and assist with project portfolio management
  • Effectively manage priorities, deliverables and timelines with little need for escalation
  • Analyzing and documenting requirements
  • Participating in technology selection
  • Controlling solution development
  • Supporting project management

Qualifications
  • Experience working in Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe)
  • Experience designing Cloud and Hybrid solutions
  • Strong experience designing APIs (REST, sync/async)
  • Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Troubleshooting in very complex distributed environments
  • Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift
  • Familiarity with modern UI frameworks such as Angular/Vue/React
  • Experience with Cloud monitoring and logging tools like Splunk, DataDog or Loggly
  • Excellent Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work under indirect supervision
  • Broad understanding of information technology topics
  • Understanding of business analysis techniques and processes
  • Effective interpersonal skills and collaborative style
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Capacity and commitment to acquiring new skills outside of current area of expertise
  • Demonstrated passion and deep involvement with technology
  • Technically creative and open-minded

Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a solution architect designing and software solutions in large complex organizations
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in P&C Insurance with a strong understanding of insurance and insurance business processes
  • 5+ years' experience in the following areas:
    • Software engineering and design architecture preferably .NET and Azure
    • Cloud computing-Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, IBM
    • Implementations using typical enterprise integration patterns
    • Prototyping and design pattern development
    • Designing for high volume performance and cyber security requirements
  • Expertise with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SharePoint) or similar software

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
