PURPOSE:

We are seeking an experienced IBM MQ Administrator to manage our distributed MQSeries environments across CareFirst UNIX (AIX & LINUX) platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Installation, maintenance, and monitoring of IBM MQ software across CareFirst platforms.
  • Work with the CareFirst mainframe team and external partners to establish and maintain MQ connectivity.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining MQ objects in support of applications, resolving MQ connectivity problems, assisting developers, and debugging problems.
  • Some of these activities must be performed outside normal business hours and on weekends to minimize the impacts to our customers.
  • 24x7 on-call responsibilities for application or infrastructure issues.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field ORin lieu of a Bachelor's degree an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Licenses/Certifications:ITIL Foundations v3preferred.

Experience:8 years proven success overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems and applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • An individual with broad IBM MQ Administration experience on UNIX and z/OS platforms.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with configuring and managing MQ queue managers and MQ objects; issuing MQSC and MQ control commands; and configuring MQ security.
  • An individual capable of responding to alerts received from various monitoring systems and resolving the problems.
  • Advanced UNIX/Linux skills. Candidates should be capable of writing/editing UNIX shell scripts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide support outside normal office hours, including weekends and holiday.
  • Ability to provide 24x7 on-call coverage.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nastel AutoPilot and Dynatrace.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and web-based technologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to collaborate to solve technical problems across teams.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads that can be variable for long periods of time. Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
