Position SummaryThe Summer Language Program (SLP) is a paid 12-week program that runs from the end of May through mid-August each year. This program is looking for students that can speak the critical languages that we're looking for. As an intern in the Summer Language Program, you will use your passion for foreign language and strong oral communication, written communication, and critical thinking skills to research, translate, transcribe, report, and analyze foreign intelligence. Your foreign language and English skills will provide key decision makers with a complete and accurate picture of the context within which the decision is being made (i.e. provide an understanding of the nuance, context, cultural overtones, and dialect in which the communication occurred).DCIPS DisclaimerThe National Security Agency (NSA) is part of the DoD Intelligence Community Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). All positions in the NSA are in the Excepted Services under 10 United States Codes (USC) 1601 appointment authority.How To Apply - ExternalClearance/Security Requirements:Applicants will be processed for a security clearance and will be required to pass a psychological exam, lifestyle and counterintelligence polygraph, and complete a comprehensive history form that documents your foreign travel, educational background and employment history, among other areas.

If you have spent more than 3 consecutive months abroad since graduating from high school, our security department may not have adequate time to process you for a summer internship. In general, the longer the time spent abroad, the longer the clearance process may take.

To be considered for the Summer Language Program, you must submit a complete application package that includes:

' Unofficial transcripts' A list of your fall courses and proposed spring courses ' Your on-line application. Be sure to complete the College Education portion of the application. If you do not yet have a degree, list your school and your projected graduation date. You may use the Other Professional Details section of the application to include any additional relevant information, such as language immersions, scholarships, interests, etc

NOTE: Daily transportation to and from work is not provided. Students participating in the program are encouraged to bring a vehicle. Carpooling with other interns MAY be available but is NOT guaranteed.ResponsibilitiesSummer Language Program:Undergraduate and graduate students will learn to analyze foreign communications for vital intelligence missions by apprenticing with experienced language analysts. Geopolitical, cultural, and technical knowledge may be used to understand both overtly stated meaning and subtly implied intent as you scan, translate, and transcribe foreign communications, then report critical information to U.S. government customers.

About The Program:The Summer Language Program is a 12-week internship intended for high-potential full-time college upperclassmen and graduate students. Foreign language proficiency combined with a wide array of majors and minors will be considered for this program, which can be a one-summer or two-summer internship. The program may begin after your sophomore year, and if mutually agreeable, continue the summer after your junior year. Likewise, the program may begin the summer after your junior year and continue the summer between your senior year and your first year of graduate school. The program may also take place in the summers between years of graduate study. Participation during a second summer is encouraged but not required. At the end of your internship, an offer may be extended for you to join NSA in a full-time position after graduation.

The 2022 Summer Language Program is hiring students with proficiency in Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, and Russian. Individuals with skills in less common languages are also encouraged to apply. The languages may change from year to year based on the Agency's projected hiring needs.
