Your work will have real-world impact, and you’ll be supported in achieving your career goals.Location/Division Specific Information:Frederick MDHow will you make an impact?The position represents an opportunity to join the Thermo Fisher Scientific Cell Biology R&D team responsible for identifying and developing novel technologies for incorporation into new products, generating application data and supporting marketing initiatives. The individual will execute scientific research individually and as part of cross-functional development teams to reach these goals.What will you do?The individual will work as part of the Cell Biology R&D team to lead projects within the Thermo Fisher product commercialization process under the Gibco™ brand with future growth opportunities.Cell line and media development to enhance protein expression in mammalian cells, particularly in CHO cells.
cGMP cell banking under GPM regulations.
Upstream process development to improve protein expression yields at different scales, from microtiter plates to bioreactors.
Molecular biology for plasmid DNA generation, amplification and purification.
Downstream process development for protein purification and characterization a plus
Genome editing experience a plus
Work in a matrix environment to conceive, design, and implement strategies to address current challenges associated with large scale and high yield protein expression and downstream characterization.
Prepare and present experimental data summaries and protocol writing.
Perform literature searches related to products under development and new idea generation.
Make contributions to scientific literature and conferences.
Comply with all company safety regulations and procedures.
Maintain accurate lab notebooks and training files in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher required standards to support patent application and defense as well as other international standards (e.g., ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.).
How will you get here?Education & Experience:Candidate should possess advanced degree in Biology, Cell Biology or related discipline:Masters of Science degree in Biology, Immunology or Molecular Biology or related field is required.
PhD degree is Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:In depth knowledge and experience with transient and/or stable protein expression in mammalian cells including CHO, 293 etc.
Experience with flow cytometry and/or flow sorting of cells.
Experience with single cell cloning and clonality documentation.
Knowledge of metabolomics, proteomics to improve cellular productivity.
Demonstrated ability in standard molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning, PCR and plasmid purification, gel electrophoresis.
Experience with protein expression in bioreactors and/or wave bags.
Cell line engineering experience a plus.
Experience with downstream protein purification/characterization a plus.
Demonstrated competence completing tasks under direct supervision.
Solid technical writing skills.
Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to achieve results and solve problems.
