Rare job opening: Medigen Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, experienced individual with an interest in biopharmaceutical vaccine discovery to work as a team member and independently, exercise judgement, and conduct research activities as an experienced laboratory research assistant/scientist. Education:

Bachelors or Masters degree in cell biology, microbiology, biological sciences, biochemical / molecular cell biology, immunology, or biochemical engineering or related disciplines. A Ph.D. degree in similar field of study is advantageous.

Experience:

The minimum years of relevant work experience expected for this position is 2 years after BS/MS, or 1 year after Ph.D. Lab experience in a biotech or pharma company is valued. This is not an entry-level lab position.

Technical Skills:

Applicant will have these responsibilities and should have experience and proficiency in some of:

- Plasmid preparation

- Aseptic cell culture techniques including both transient transfection and stable cell lines

- Preparation and care of mammalian cell lines

- Protein purification on Akta systems from cell culture supernatants using MAC and IEX

- Protein analysis including SDS-PAGE, Western blots, ELISA

- Virus biology techniques including plaque assays, hemagglutination and neutralization.

Other responsibilities include completing appropriate documentation of experiments including laboratory notebooks, equipment logbooks and inventory forms, preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses with minimal supervision. GLP/GMP experience a plus. Will require periodic weekend work consisting of 2-3 hours approximately once monthly. Some projects may require animal experiments or analysis of serum.

General Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills. Demonstrated ability to seek, learn, and apply new skills and knowledge to perform job responsibilities. Must be a self-starter who takes initiative. Must be a highly motivated individual capable of working well independently. We are a small operation by intent; it is critical that each employee is pleasant with peers and contributes to a positive work environment.

Job Complexity: Must be able to work for multiple hours in the lab. The job provides for both a diversity of work tasks and repetitious operations. Candidates must be flexible in time management. Position functions require the applicant to frequently alternate between sitting, standing, lifting, etc. as required to perform job responsibilities including routine maintenance of machinery and storage and removal from storage of materials.
