Role: Membrane Research Associate I

Type: Full Time

Location: Gaithersburg, MD (onsite M-F 9-5pm)

Pay: 65-75k/yr

Job Overview:

A membrane Research Associate is a member of membrane R&D responsible for fabricating and evaluating polymeric and biomimetic membranes. The Research Associate will work closely with Senior Scientist, Scientist, and lab technicians to develop novel filtration membranes.

Roles:

• Assist the Membrane R&D team in developing membranes that align with the companys strategic objectives.

• Design and carry out experiments focused on modifying and coating membrane surfaces, aiming to achieve optimal performance for different separation applications.

• Conduct membrane performance evaluations and implement quality control measures in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Analyze experimental data, compile findings into reports, and present conclusions to team members.

• Utilize membrane characterization techniques and analyze resulting data to evaluate membranes pore structure and surface properties.

• Collaborate with the Polymer and Protein R&D groups to conduct research on biomimetic membranes.

• Investigate novel methods for membrane evaluation, create standard operating procedures (SOPs) accordingly, and provide training to others as necessary.

• Adhere to good documentation practices by keeping accurate and thorough records of data forms, protocols, reports, and laboratory notebooks.

• Offer assistance and training to laboratory technicians as required.

• Perform general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory facilities and equipment.

• Maintain an accurate inventory of consumable items, including reagents, chemicals, and supplies.

• Contribute to pilot-scale production of novel membranes.

Requirements:

• Bachelors or masters degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related fields

• Minimum of three years of experience in an industrial research laboratory.

• Knowledge of membrane and/or surface coating chemistry, membrane and/or thin film fabrication techniques.

• Excellent analytical skills in HPLC and UV-vis.

Additional Qualifications:

• Familiar with membrane separation processes.

• Preferred experience with polymer and polymer film characterization techniques such as GPC, FTIR, DLS, Goniometer, and viscometer.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

• Possess an inherent curiosity and enthusiasm toward emerging technologies and scientific advancements.

• Proficient in written and verbal communication and can convey ideas and thoughts effectively through both mediums.

• Demonstrate diligence and keen attention to detail, ensuring efficient laboratory operations while adhering to good laboratory practices.

• Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment and adept at multitasking.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of quality in their work.
