Description SAIC is seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer on the OMES II contract in support of the On-Orbit Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing OSAM-1 program in NASA's Exploration and In-Space Services Projects (NExIS) division. This position is located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. OSAM-1 is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the OSAM-1 Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services. NExIS is responsible for the design, engineering, development, test, and operations of the OSAM-1 Mission through an integrated team at GSFC. The Servicing Payload design, development and RSV integration will be conducted at GSFC. JOB DESCRIPTION: The engineer will support the OSAM-1 Advanced Tool Drive Subsystem (ATDS) team. Job duties include:
  • Using schematic capture tool and simulation software such as Orcad and/or Altium used for harnessing drawings and circuit analysis, VISIO for developing test diagrams.
  • Using electrical ground support test equipment with ASIST, Labview, and RS422 interface.
  • FPGA testing, digital design, as well as analog op-amp designs and circuit analysis.
  • Using test equipment such as: Power Supplies, Signal Generator, Oscilloscope, and Digital Voltmeter.
  • Writing and reviewing documentation, including assembly procedures, Work Order Authorizations, Test Plans, and Test Procedures.
  • Planning test campaigns and writing test scripts.
  • Writing work order documentation for assembly and test activities.
  • Assessing complex issues and recommend resolution to the team and management; implement resolutions.
Qualifications REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with stepper and brushless dc motor requirements and testing specifications such as holding and running torque, back drive, pull in/out torque, and verifying torque margin needed for mechanism characterization.
  • Experience in the areas of aerospace board design, fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Experience with working in a clean room to perform testing of aerospace hardware.
  • Experience with both performance and environmental testing such as vibration and thermal vacuum for space flight mechanisms which will require shift work.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain NASA Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) certification (GSFC-SH-ESDCO300 300-PG-8730.6.1A). English proficiency is required to successfully complete the required training and pass testing (written and/or hands-on) to obtain NASA ESD certification .
