Northrop Grumman's Enterprise Services organization is seeking a qualified Principal Network Engineer based in Linthicum, MD to perform key assignments for Mission Systems off-net Engineering and Manufacturing networks. This position supports large heterogeneous unclassified networks that support physical and virtual hosts with an emphasis on supporting software development teams and manufacturing cells.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of complex systems and networks. Responsibilities include network design, implementation, and evaluation, hardware/software installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, repair, monitoring, tuning, automation scripting and general user support. Duties will also include maintaining system documentation, developing infrastructure support procedures, and providing security support.

He/she will coordinate maintenance activities with other team members and users to produce least impact solutions. The candidate will also provide technical guidance to internal and external personnel on highly complex network system installation processes while having a solid understanding of the OSI model.

This position can be hired as a Principal or Sr. Principal Level Engineer, based on the candidate's education and experience. Basic Qualifications for a Principal/Level 3:
  • 5 Years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related STEM field; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. Equivalent combination of education with experience may be accepted.
  • Proficiency with networking devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Proficiency with various network topographies (data center, LAN, and WAN).
  • Proficiency with TCP/IP connectivity utilizing UTP and fiber optic media.
  • Understanding of Networking technologies including: VLANs, VLAN trunking, Link Aggregation (LACP, LAG), Spanning Tree, VXLAN, layer 3 Routing, CIDR Subnetting, virtual chassis and clustering
  • Proficiency with network security principles, threats, and vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and completely; analytical problem-solving skills; adept at root-cause analysis and mitigation.
  • Design, implement and maintain complex systems and networks. Coordinate maintenance activities with other team members and users to produce least impact solutions.
  • Provides technical guidance to internal and external personnel on highly complex network system installation processes.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI model
  • Experience providing remote support
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal/Level 4:
  • 9 Years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related STEM field; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD. Equivalent combination of education with experience may be accepted.
  • Proficiency with networking devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Proficiency with various network topographies (data center, LAN, and WAN).
  • Proficiency with TCP/IP connectivity utilizing UTP and fiber optic media.
  • Understanding of Networking technologies including: VLANs, VLAN trunking, Link Aggregation (LACP, LAG), Spanning Tree, VXLAN, layer 3 Routing, CIDR Subnetting, virtual chassis and clustering

  • Understanding of cyber security compliance in frameworks such as DFARS, RMF or DIACAP
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and completely; analytical problem-solving skills; adept at root-cause analysis and mitigation.
  • Ability to work independently while being conscious of how your work interacts with that of others
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Must possess drive, enthusiasm and attention to detail.
  • Design, implement and maintain complex systems and networks. Coordinate maintenance activities with other team members and users to produce least impact solutions.
  • Provides technical guidance to internal and external personnel on highly complex network system installation processes.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI model
  • Experience providing remote support
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Juniper networking hardware and operating systems
  • Familiar with using JunOS, JunOS Space, Security Director, and Network Director to manage Juniper network infrastructure.
  • Proficient with implementing and managing DHCP, Radius, NPS, and DNS.
  • Familiar with creating and implementing layer-7 firewall policies for Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Experience performing troubleshooting with traffic capture tools; such as Wireshark and tcpdump
  • Experience with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Ability to work flex and overtime hours with some weekend hours expected.
  • Experience with network automation using technologies such as PowerShell, Ansible, Python, JavaScript
  • CCNA or CCNP certification or equivalent is a plus!
  • Exposure to VMware NSX firewalls, associated logical networks and routers
  • Understanding of Software Defined Networking concepts
  • Experience implementing and managing VMware NSX underlay and overlay networks
  • Experience with NSX load balancers
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.

Salary Range: $88,000 USD - $132,000 USD

Salary Range 2: $109,100 USD - $163,700 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
