The Principal Enterprise Business Architect plays a key role in structuring the enterprise in terms of business capabilities, business information, and the operating models necessary to implement business strategies. The Enterprise Business Architect aligns strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products and services; partners and suppliers; capabilities and organization; and key business and technology initiatives. The primary focus is the business motivations, business operations, and the functional business aspects that link the enterprise together. The Enterprise Business Architect works to develop an integrated view of the enterprise and how it must evolve and adapt in response to market-based strategies, using a cohesive capability model.

With a strong blend of leadership and business strategy skills, the Principal Enterprise Business Architect uses a consultative approach to drive the alignment of technical solutions with business needs. The Enterprise Business Architect works at every level of the organization to solicit strategic imperatives and capabilities required to execute their business plans. The Enterprise Business Architect will provide direct input into the portfolio planning process and governance processes that support various business scenarios, the achievement of key goals, and delivery of business value. He/She possesses a broad understanding of the enterprise, the business, current capabilities and future needs, business initiatives and healthcare/technology industry trends. He/She provides counsel to senior leadership and teams.

The Principal Enterprise Business Architect performs:
  • Strategy Development: He/she engages in business strategy development to identify new business capability and technology-driven opportunities to ensure alignment in an enterprise architecture. He/She defines operating models to exploit new capabilities, automation, and standardization and support due diligence on merger, acquisition, strategic partnership, and investment activities of the enterprise.
  • Architecture Development: He/she provides oversight and leadership for development, review, approval, and maintenance of enterprise architecture blueprints and roadmap – specifically the evolving business capability model. He/she analyzes pain points and opportunities that transcend business areas and propose enterprise strategies or solutions.
  • Architecture Governance: He/She provide thought leadership governance forums to push the thinking of how we organize to participate in the market. He/she ensures that IT portfolio decisions provide business value and optimize total cost of ownership.
  • Planning and Operations: He/she supports annual planning processes and alignment with IT strategy and enterprise architecture. He/she provide regular reporting on capability progress, issues, and gaps.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop a business architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations.
  • Apply a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the enterprise.
  • Capture the tactical and strategic enterprise goals that provide traceability through the organization and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance.
  • Describe the primary business functions of the enterprise and distinguish between customer-facing, supplier-related, business execution and business management functions.
  • Define the set of strategic, core and support processes that transcend functional and organizational boundaries; identify and describe external entities such as customers, suppliers, and external systems that interact with the business; and describe which people, resources and controls are involved in the processes.
  • Define the data shared across the enterprise and the relationships between those data.
  • Capture the relationships among roles, capabilities and business units, the decomposition of those business units into subunits, and the internal or external management of those units.

ualifications:

The Principal Enterprise Business Architect possess a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, computer science, Information Technology, or related field and have 10+ years of strategic planning experience. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a successful candidate possesses and additional 4 years of professional experience.
  • A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes, and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
  • The ability to recognize structural issues within the organization, functional interdependencies, and cross-silo redundancies.
  • The ability to apply architectural principles to business solutions.
  • The ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation, drawings, and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to high-priority business issues.
  • Experience using model-based representations that can be adjusted as required to collect, aggregate or disaggregate complex and conflicting information about the business.
  • The ability to visualize and create high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture.
  • Extensive experience planning and deploying both business and IT initiatives.
  • Experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations.
  • The ability to act as liaison conveying information needs of the business to IT and data constraints to the business; applies equal conveyance regarding business strategy and IT strategy, business processes and workflow automation, business initiatives and IT initiatives, and benefit realization and service delivery.
  • Team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus.
  • Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities.
  • Familiar with relevant (regional, market, industry) data privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Familiar with design thinking and similar principles is a plus.
