PURPOSE:

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the management, availability, performance, and security of the CareFirst Virtual Desktop infrastructure which includes Windows servers, Virtual Desktops (VDI), and Windows RDSH Hosts. Candidate must have strong knowledge in managing and troubleshooting server hardware. Candidate must have strong knowledge and experience with VMware virtualization software and supporting components as well as the VMWare Horizon platform. The position is also responsible desktop image management and application packaging in Microsoft Intune, SCCM and VMWare App Volumes.

The position requires strong troubleshooting, project management, and effective communication skills to extend beyond the EUC Engineering team to collaborate with other technical teams on complex infrastructure designs or difficult troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Installs, tunes, upgrades, troubleshoots, and maintains all computer systems relevant to the supported applications including all necessary tasks to perform operating system administration, user account management, disaster recovery strategy and networking configuration.Maintain and administer virtualization software: VMware vSphere and VMware Horizon,Virtual Desktop Infrastructure support requires

    24x7x365 on-call availability to provide emergency support of critical business applications.Adhere to standard Service Level Agreements (SLA) for day-to-day support. Ensure that change management process is properly followed for environment changes.
  • Develop and implement techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoots incidents to recover services, and support the root cause analysis,Provide tier 3 desktop support for escalations.
  • Evaluates new systems by performing in-depth tests, including end-user reviews. Researches software and related products to support recommendations and purchasing. Determines systems integration issues by evaluating components; developing and completing performance tests; analyzing test data; studying project requirements; analyzing user and potential user input; evaluating similar and related products and systems. Develop system automation and system integration of business processes.Implement process and procedures as well as Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation enhancing and standardizingsupport across multiple teams.
  • Improves engineering job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Provide project management over the technical aspects of implementing infrastructure projects and major release upgrades for CareFirst’s largest, most complex and critical systems.Properly follow a project life cycle,Develop project plans,Complete all appropriate documentation and notifications to obtain resolution within the established timeframes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:The incumbent will act as the point of escalation within the team to assist as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree inInformation Technology or Computer Science OR inlieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Licenses/Certifications:ITIL Foundations v3 within 180 Days Preferred.

Experience: 8 years proven success overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems and applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to collaborate to solve technical problems across teams.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
