PURPOSE:We are seeking an experienced, high energy, driven, servant leader to build and lead our Command Center organization. The Director, Command Center will focus on growing command center capabilities and leading data center operations. This senior leadership role is expected to be proficient in data center management, Network Operations Center (NOC) leadership, and command center toolsets & processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide strategic vision for new and supported systems by creating roadmaps/value maps in partnership with business stakeholders and IT leadership. Ensure that the appropriate technology and methodologies are applied when translating business requirements into technical and functional solutions. This position will be involved in strategic technology planning and will oversee solution architecture across the current and future portfolio
  • Plan and execute the department strategy to improve service delivery and the organization. Implement strategies to enable meeting goals and expectations; gather information, frame problems, devise/execute plans, track progress, adjust plans and demonstrate outcomes
  • Oversee a high performance, system engineering team and create an organization that delivers both compelling system vision and implementation
  • Responsible for growing an organization responsible for the establishment of a world class IT application and infrastructure monitoring and alerting capability
  • Evaluates and implements software tools, processes, integrations, and automation to maintain and support availability, performance, and operations service level agreements
  • Provides leadership for incident and problem management
  • Directs the team responsible for managing the lifecycle of all incidents and restoration of IT services in compliance with established SLAs
  • Ensures that timely and accurate communication is provided to customers and IT leadership
  • Supports the team responsible for IT quality and change management functions
  • Leads functional team responsible for Root Cause Analysis (RCAs), FRBs (Failure Review Boards), and leading incident response
  • Leads the team responsible for the oversight, governance, and planning for CareFirst’s disaster recovery of on premises and cloud information technology infrastructure and applications
  • Leads and coordinates annual disaster recovery exercise and ensures all audit, technology and process findings are remediated. Supports audit and internal risk management organization with disaster recovery and business continuity planning and documentation
  • Directs the team responsible for managing and maintaining the support of CareFirst’s data center and remote facility computer room infrastructure including HVAC, UPS, generators, and power distribution equipment
  • Plans and executes the department’s strategy to improve service delivery for the organization. Implements strategies to enable meeting goals and expectations; gather information, frame problems, devise/execute plans, track progress, adjust plans and demonstrate outcomes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:This position manages people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology,and/or operational environment.In lieu of a Bachelor's degree

OR in lieu of education an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Experience:
  • 8 years Related professional experience
  • 3 years Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proven interpersonal skills that enable collaboration and communication with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience managing, coaching and mentoring Command Center specialists
  • Deep knowledge of 24x7x365 NOC operations
  • Experience in Incident Response
  • Experience in evaluating, selecting, and implementing toolsets for proactive operational and performance monitoring and management.
  • Experience building and managing command center for cloud based infrastructure.
  • Knowledge in Data Center management and Data Center migration to cloud.
  • Knowledge in SLA management, vendor escalations and management and reporting
  • Ability to present technical and non technical information to multiple audiences.
  • Ability to build relationships across a variety of partner groups in a global environment.
  • Ability to plan and manage complex projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.
  • Proficiency with various systems engineering tools and processes.
  • Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads that can be variable for long periods of time. Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
