- The BI Developer/Analyst is a highly motivated professional responsible for developing innovative and complex data solutions and applications to support actuarial analytics. With a critical eye towards data integrity and a growing understanding of healthcare data, the BI Developer/Analyst will partner with actuaries on a wide range of activities to produce analytics tools and applications and assist with ad hoc reporting and analysis.Additionally, the BI Developer/Analyst will work closely with non-actuarial stakeholders to support financial and business-related processes to understand and manage the financial health of the company.
- The BI Developer/Analyst is expected to have a basic understanding of the health care business and is strongly encouraged to quickly improve on this business knowledge to perform analysis more independently on the data to validate accuracy and proper reporting based on established business rules.
- The BI Developer/Analyst is expected to learn and understand the fundamentals of actuarial analytics. This includes becoming familiar with actuarial terminology and basic calculations as well as with the underlying health care data being used for analysis to be able to explain reasons for outliers and to generally support in-depth questions and analytical results.
- The BI Developer/Analyst will be responsible and accountable for all phases of the System Development Life Cycle. This requires an understanding of the business need, the data needed to respond to the request, and the ability to execute on the building and delivery of accurate and timely reporting and data solutions.
- The BI Developer/Analyst is expected to make decisions, with management guidance, on the appropriate data sources to use, the optimal approachto solve business problems, and to ensure that results tie to appropriate controls.
- This is a fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative environment requiring quick learning, agility, and flexibility.
- Writes and executes ETL code, primarily complex SQL/NoSQL script, but with a strong ability to leverage other technologies.
- Analyzes and validates existing routines and communicates impacts. Assists with data transformation, manipulation, and presentation to users.
- Works with Business Analysts, Business Intelligence Developers, Infrastructure Architects, and key business users to review, design, and develop data models and ETL processes.
- Supports the Software Engineering team with data analysis and validation with extensive SQL queries.
- Designs, configures, implements, monitors, and manages all aspects of Data Integration Framework.
- Provides detailed guidance and performs work related to Modeling Data Warehouse solutions in the cloud OR on-premise. Understands Dimensional Modeling, Denormalized Data Structures, OLAP, and Data Warehousing concepts.
- Defines Data Integration best practices for the data management environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of at least one programming language (i.e., SQL, NoSQL, Python).
- Knowledge and understanding of data exchange formats.
- Knowledge and understanding of database design and implementation concepts.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Knowledge and understanding of data movement concepts.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads that can be variable for long periods of time.
- Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
