VP/MD Product Architecture/Technology Strategy

Maryland, Patuxentriverestates, 21054 Patuxentriverestates USA

Vacancy expired!

OneMain Financial is looking for a VP/MD Product Architecture/Technology Strategy to lead our ongoing technology transformation. We seek an active leader who is grounded in computing fundamentals and is hands-on with current cloud technology and data management practices. This person will lead a strong team to bring our technology organization to the next level.

THE ORGANIZATION

OneMain Financial is the leader in offering nonprime customers responsible access to credit. OneMain is committed to being the partner of choice and empowering customers to reach a better financial future. The OneMain team helps customers meet critical financial needs including debt consolidation, home and auto repair, medical procedures, and other major expenses.

OneMain has one of the highest rates of customer retention and renewal in the industry, stemming from attention to customers' wants and needs. OneMain maintains the best performing loan portfolio in its sector by building on the strong customer base and by applying high performing credit and underwriting analytic models.

OneMain's current challenge is to leverage these capabilities across a broader financial services product family and to continue to advance the ability to formulate and deliver customer experience based on advanced models. OneMain is currently undergoing major business and technology modernization to deliver on the above.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The VP/MD Product Architecture/Technology Strategy will be charged with defining and implementing the technology vision for the OneMain product platform. Core product capabilities include customer experience, model development, decisioning and delivery, loan servicing, marketing and customer acquisition along with core horizontal capabilities such as data models and management, channel communication and other shared services, cloud infrastructure, continuous integration / delivery, internal and third-party integration, security / data privacy and compliance.

The position requires providing leadership, direction and cohesion to the teams implementing various parts of the architecture.

Specifically, the VP/MD Product Architecture/Technology Strategy will:
  • Work with C-suite and line-of-business heads to define and evolve a strategic business / technology vision.
  • Define and fine-tune a strategic target-state business / technology architecture which will afford the flexibility for rapid evolution and scale-out.
  • Develop target-state architecture into tactical milestones for incremental implementation and migration.
  • Take lead on hiring and coordinating a 5-10 person architecture guild that directly contributes to the execution of the vision working within OneMain implementation teams.
  • Efficiently support the milestone plan by building strong cross-team ties to parallelize the work while maintaining and advancing a coherent technology vision.
  • Create and sustain processes for continuous redesign and rapid innovation.
  • Be the focal point for architecture design for bespoke and differentiating services.
  • Lead technology assessment and selection for packages / underlying services for horizontal and commodity capabilities.
  • Make key technical decisions supported by rigorous reasoning.
  • Provide a systems view and engineering rigor to assess design coherence and integrity of the existing stack. Diagnose and mitigate problems in existing architecture and drive near-term and longer-term remediation based on root cause analysis and sound systems engineering principles.
  • Leverage current trends in open source and commercial cloud-native services to best "future-proof" implementations.
  • Demonstrate excellent communications skills and natural authority; develop strong internal credibility to leverage non-direct staff and in working with other executives.
  • Represent OneMain within the financial services and technology industries to stay connected to advances and to "sell" OneMain's capabilities and opportunities.

EXPERIENCE

The candidate should have a background which includes a minimum of 12-15+ years of progressive product development / SaaS experience in roles of increasing responsibility, with a demonstrated track record of leadership and expertise in cloud deployed architecture and application architecture development. The candidate should currently have an active hand in architecture and solution design, and be current with the portfolio of modern, cloud-native services and tools.

Experience should also include a minimum of 5-7 years of management and people leadership along with strong project management and delivery experience. Experience with incremental migration away from legacy systems and practices is required. Experience within a world-class, financial services or SaaS company is preferred.

The candidate should be intimately familiar with major aspects of SaaS design and implementation and related / supporting technologies. Ideally the candidate would have deep experience in the consumer financial services sector, but this is not a requirement. Familiarity with the following technologies is a plus:
  • Amazon Web Services leveraged for high-scale consumer product delivery
  • Business analytics, data lake and reporting technologies
  • Machine learning model development and production pipelines for data science
  • Continuous integration / continuous delivery
  • Data modeling, management, and data-driven processing
  • Information security and privacy compliance, controls and supporting techniques
  • Current with latest technological advances that could benefit OneMain
  • Knowledge of all functions and roles within a Technology department and other functional business units (marketing, credit, risk, finance, and operations)

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

We seek an individual who can lead by example through strong personal leadership, perform effective consensus building, foster a true team orientation, and build strong relationships through impeccable interpersonal skills. We seek a strong team player who is willing to partner and engage with business leadership to deliver substantive, business value-add to the OneMain product family.
  • OneMain seeks a strategic thinker who will have responsibility for the business / technology architecture but will make a much broader contribution to the organization.
  • This person should be a team builder who can influence people/teams that they don't manage.
  • The right candidate has a bias for action, pursues excellence, and can frame tradeoffs.
  • "Board ready," the successful candidate will be polished, articulate and professional, and will possess excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • S/he should address business with passion, loyalty, and a sense of humor.

EDUCATION

We expect (but do not require) that the successful candidate possesses a graduate level degree in a technical discipline, ideally computer science, engineering, or other technical discipline. Compelling business experience is also prized.
