ASD is seeking a IT PM/ Infrastructure Technical Manager - Advisor to support its NIAID Program in Rockville MD. This is a hybrid telecommute position (not 100% remote).We are seeking a Technology Engineer to join our team to support National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) activities at Rockville, MD. As a Technology Engineer supporting NIAID, you will tap into your systems engineering experience to help modernize scientific IT support and services. You will be part of a diverse team of engineers in the Operations and Engineering Branch (OEB) supporting NIAID’s mission to better understand, treat, and prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.

In this role, a typical day will include:
  • Collaborate with NIAID engineers and scientists to evaluate on-premise infrastructure for specific projects and long-term goals
  • Evaluate scientific projects and provide recommendations, planning, and design of new hardware, software, and workflows to meet requirements
  • Provide comparative analysis and cost estimates for new scientific projects
  • Work with NIAID engineering and support teams to improve scientific support capabilities
  • Perform analysis of system components and provide recommendations to improve system availability and performance

Required Qualifications:
  • BA/BS or equivalent and 10 years related experience or a MS and 8 years’ experience
  • Strong experience with project management methodologies
  • Experience supporting scientific applications and customers
  • Good understanding of IT security, FISMA, NIST 800-53
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users and staff
  • Must be able to obtain a NIH Public Trust

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with infrastructure technologies such as Networking (Layer 2/3) and Storage (File/Block)
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Experience analyzing solution components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps in current components

FAQ
  • Due to COVID, is this position remote or are they required to work onsite immediately? Preference will be given to a local candidate who can be onsite, if needed. The team has been primarily working remotely since 3/2020. However, this is not a 100% full time remote position. If there is an exceptional candidate, we can ask the government for permission to reclassify the position as 100% remote. This is rare.
  • What will a typical workday look like ? Is this a team setting? Meetings/discussions/collaborations with customers, vendors, and internal/external teams. Creating project documentation, high level architecture of proposed solutions, presentations, executive summaries, etc. Submitting and actively tracking requests to internal/external implementation teams.
  • What are the top three skillsets the candidate should have? (1) Customer service, (2) IT engineering/security and (3) Project management/Agile
  • What is the interview process (phone then in-person or only phone, etc.)? Phone screen with me then video interview with the team. Customer discussion afterwards per customer discretion.
