Piper Companies is currently seeking an
Animal Technician for a well-established research organization in Rockville, MD area. The Animal Technician will be performing a variety of tasks including technical, housekeeping and any record keeping necessary to continue operation of animal research studies involving ferrets, mice, and nonhuman primates.Responsibilities of the Animal Technician: • Ability to handle the caretaking of laboratory animals using vital knowledge of the biology and physical characteristics of animals in order to recognize any illness or physical abnormalities. • Understanding of laboratory equipment and procedures used in carrying out the study. • Administer medications, collect blood samples, process blood samples and assist with other technical procedures • Assist with necropsies and euthanasia procedures • Utilize proper professional communication skills to work alongside investigators, supervisors, and caretakers. • Make accurate observations and keep accurate, precise records. • Perform mathematical calculations and properly interpret written and oral instructions.Qualifications of the Animal Technician: • 1+ years experience in animal research or laboratory experimental research • Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, Biology, or any science related field • LAT, LATg, or ALAT certification from AALAS (Preferred) Compensation for the Animal Technician:- Salary Range: $20 - $25/hr based on years of relevant experience
