Job Summary: Operates waste treatment and recycling equipment and facilities to process and neutralize exhaust scrubber fluids and chemical waste routed to treatment plant from plating, printed circuit and similar manufacturing departments. Operates groundwater remediation system equipment and facilities to process and treat contaminated groundwaters. Oversees and takes corrective actions to discharge final effluent from plant to limits consistent with Municipal·, State and Federal codes for environmental protection of waterways and air quality.2nd Shift – 2:30pm - 11:00pm (Monday - Friday) - Andover, MassachusettsResponsibilities to Anticipate:Works to general supervisory instructions, charts, manuals, and flow diagrams, applying specialized training in wastewater treatment technology.

Operates, monitors and oversees a variety of equipment to treat or remove such wastes or contaminants as cyanides, chromes, acids, alkalis, volatile organic compounds and floor spills from work areas.

As necessary, varies techniques and process controls to meet standards of acceptance for wastewater collection and treatment.

Monitors operation of instrumentation and recorders during treatment to measure, control, and record oxidation reduction potential.

Implements immediate corrective measures where recorder and/or alarm system signals a potential upset.

Takes required samples and measurements; makes required chemical analyses.

Maintains cleanliness of wastewater treatment and groundwater remediation areas.

Takes emergency action to clear chemical lines and piping, services valves and pumps, proportions feeders and mixers.

Calibrates and maintains pH and ORP chemical controllers and electrodes and flow and control equipment. Determines and prepares appropriate ratios of chemical mixes for batch treatments.

Participates, when required, as member of the hazardous material (chemical, hazardous waste, blood or blood contaminated body- fluids, etc.), spill response/cleanup unit to remove spills from the work area.

Performs general maintenance and housekeeping of workplace, tools and equipment.

Maintains records, moves materials and follows safety rules in performance of duties.

Performs other similar duties as required or directed.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment used, includes but not limited to: Mixers, waste transfer pumps, holding tanks, cooling towers, filters, power and control panels, recorders, feeders, proportioning pumps, chemicals and slurries, chemical testing equipment such as pH meters, color test and settling agents, beakers, titration apparatus, material handling equipment, chemical and sludge waste barrels, clarifiers, polymer feed modules, filter press, sludge dryer, pH/ORP control equipment, groundwater remediation equipment such as well pumps, level/flow controls, stripping tower, blowers, vapor phase control unit, well hailers, media filters, baghouse filter, gauges, sensors, respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, safety equipment, clothing and hand tools.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Advanced academic instruction in chemistry, bacteriology or wastewater treatment and technology.

Class IV Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license as required by Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Ongoing Technical contact Hours as required by Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Minimum of 5 year’s experience.

Post-Offer Testing Requirement: You will be required to take post-offer qualifying tests to determine whether you meet the qualifications for this position.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
