The Principal Cloud Architect will provide technical leadership and direction that will help revolutionize the way Vertex leverages data and the cloud. This role will be a core member of our Cloud Engineering team and needs to possess the spirit of a critical thought leader combined with the drive to build and deliver. Vertex is embracing serverless as a core design principle to enable elastic, scalable, highly-available, low operations microservice development. You will design and lead the implementation of Vertex’s core cloud platforms and strategic cloud-based Research and Development projects. You will define cloud architecture blueprints and create reference implementations to accelerate scalable, secure adoption of the cloud Vertex-wide. You will also need to be adept at interacting, communicating, and partnering with other teams to raise their level of understanding of cloud-native engineering and enable their successful delivery of cloud applications.
Basic Qualifications:- Hands-on technical expert with past experience working as a subject matter expert on system design and/or cloud technologies.
- A background of expertise in various technology areas such as: cloud adoption, cloud migration and deployment, microservice architectures, full enterprise software development lifecycle, DevOps pipeline build and management.
- An understanding of enterprise software development tools and methodologies, including typical enterprise application architectures
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges.
- Design solutions that are practical, flexible, scalable, reusable, strategic and are achieved through the application of industry proven architectural principles, standards, and governance.
- Ability to work with technology architects, technical leads and developers on detailed designs and technical specifications to ensure alignment with overall Vertex cloud vision.
- 7+ years hands-on software development experience
- 7+ years of application delivery experience
- 4+ years experience with Linux scripting languages
- Self starter, self organizer, with a bias for action
- Inspires others with a blend of technical excellence, pragmatism, humility, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Questions assumptions, imagines future possibilities, and is an avid change agent.
- Understands how to look at an aggregate series of systems and work backwards to determine critical failure points, non-performant areas, and simple solutions to complex problems.
