Job Description

The Tufts CTSI Application Analyst is an opportunity for the right applicant to make an impact by providing support to Tufts CTSI staff and research investigators by developing and managing tools for data collection, management of Tufts CTSI’s REDCap and Salesforce installations, including managing updates, customer messaging, development of new projects and extensions, and data management.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Implementation

  • Develop detailed understanding of application functionality by working with senior personnel, attending training and/or reading documentation
  • Work with users to understand and define requirements
  • Use technical and analytical skills to determine best approaches to tailoring system to meet individual requirements
  • Build and configure system to meet requirements, using available application tools
  • Create documentation of custom builds as appropriate
  • Develop test scenarios based on requirements
  • Execute testing and identify issues
  • Research and resolve issues, with assistance from more senior and/or more technical personnel as needed
  • Provide input to LIVE plans
  • Provide support during LIVE events, including occasional off-hours support
  • With managerial oversight, lead small projects

Ongoing Enhancements and Support

  • Build enhancements to current functionality using application tools
  • Participate in detailed testing of software updates and upgrades
  • Respond to issues reported by users; research and resolve issues in a timely fashion
  • Provide excellent customer service: communicate in a friendly and professional manner, empathize with users on system issue impacts, set appropriate expectations on issue resolution
  • Participate in some after-hours on call support to troubleshoot and resolve system issues
  • Collaborate with vendor support personnel to research and resolve vendor product issues
  • Participate in vendor user groups and online groups, and review contents of vendor updates, to ensure optimization of the capabilities of the assigned applications
  • Participate in cross-training, as a trainer and a learner, for personal development and to ensure adequate secondary coverage on all applications

Qualifications

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Technical/analytical aptitude demonstrated through education or prior experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and can-do attitude, as demonstrated through prior work experience.

  • The ideal candidate has advanced beginner to intermediate application analyst skills, must be able to work in a team environment as a member and a facilitator; has the ability to manage one’s time effectively; and able to perform some work independently.

  • Be highly motivated and willing to learn and adopt to new, leading-edge technologies.

  • The candidate must possess excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, along with strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Comfort interacting with researchers within the Tufts CTSI network and within the broader research community.

  • Must be a team player and demonstrate interest in a longer-term role

  • Passion for supporting applications in a research environment

  • Basic understanding of software development life cycle.

  • Experience in database development and management, including the scoping, building, testing, and rollout of customized data collection tools.

  • Prior knowledge of Salesforce.com products and coding

  • Prior knowledge of REDCap application

  • Knowledge of and working experience with web development, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and PHP

  • Knowledge of and working experience with SQL (must be able to create detailed reports), Apex, SOQL, Visualforce and Lightning Web Component

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Word), Adobe Acrobat, WebEx, Zoom, Videoconferencing, and other software is required.

  • Familiarity with protection of human subject’s regulations related to participants data collection, storage, and transfer.

  • Familiarity with the regulatory requirements pertaining access to participants data.

  • Familiarity with the medical terminology and clinical research processes.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to Program Manager, Informatics

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Undergraduate degree

EXPERIENCE:

  • Undergraduate degree and 2-4 years healthcare IT experience, preferably in research setting, or Graduate degree and 0-2 years of healthcare IT experience
  • Salesforce admin or Salesforce developer experience is desired
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

This is a grant-funded position through April 2023, with the possibility of renewal.
