Job Description

I.GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clinical Behavioral Social Worker provides a range of behavioral services, within the framework of the Weight and Wellness Center to outpatients seeking treatment of obesity and weight loss management. The incumbent will provide individual and group treatment as part of a multidisciplinary team for patients seeking medical and surgical treatments for obesity and weight loss management.

  1. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides intakes and assessments of the individual seeking to enter a weight loss program either behavioral/medical or surgical. Will conduct this assessment in part according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
  • Responsible for collaborating with, and making recommendations to, a multidisciplinary health care staff, based on the initial intake and assessment. Helps develop a smooth, coordinated plan of care.
  • Provides treatment, education and or counseling for the individual utilizing behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy.
  • Ensures that clinical documentation and record keeping is complete and according to professional and departmental standards.
  • Maintains all the professional credentials required of a Massachusetts-licensed Clinical Social Worker.
  • Keeps current with the relevant behavioral health literature as it relates to obesity and weight loss by surgical, medical or behavioral approaches.
  • Participates in, teaching, public presentations, seminars and workshops. Works with other therapists in the field and in the hospital to enhance professional skills.

Qualifications

III.JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Possesses a strong behavioral background and has training and/or experience in behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy.
  • Has experience or training in individual mental health assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Has experience leading behaviorally orientated groups.
  • Possess strong public speaking skills.
  1. EDUCATION:
  • Masters Degree in Social Work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  1. EXPERIENCE:
  • 1-2 post Masters Degree social work experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

D. LICENSES, ETC.:

  • Licensure at the Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).

IV.AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
  • Provide age specific communication

V.WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Normal office setting.
  • Inpatient and/or outpatient clinic patient care area.
