Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA – The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is seeking a full time

INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE NURSE PRACTITIONER to join our dynamic team of providers. The nurse practitioner will be expected to see patients independently and to provide a complimentary role to other members of the interdisciplinary IBD team. Under the general direction of gastroenterologists in the IBD Clinic, the nurse practitioner will be responsible for coordinating and providing patient care, developing comprehensive longitudinal treatment programs, and seek consultation or referral as necessary.

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease, but is not a prerequisite for hiring. The selected candidate will be provided with a thoughtfully designed orientation and training program. Clinical and career mentorship will also be offered to foster continued development and growth.

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic at Tufts Medical Center provides comprehensive care to IBD patients using a multi-disciplinary approach. Our team-based practice includes gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, nurses, medical assistants, nutritionists, and pharmacy. Tufts Medical Center also provides infusion services to treat patients with current biologic therapies. Our division additionally offers a newly constructed, fully equipped, state of the art endoscopy unit with outstanding nursing and technical support to diagnose and manage patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • MSN required
  • BLS Certification required

EXPERIENCE:

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease, but is not a prerequisite for hiring.   • 3-5 years nursing experience
  • 1-2 years practicing as a Nurse Practitioner

LICENSES, ETC.:

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License to practice in expanded role (APN).

AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
  • Provide age specific communication

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
  • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients and equipment
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, sick patients, bodily substances, noise and possible exposure to radiation, lasers, electric shock, etc.
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases and other transmissible infections
  • Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
  • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
  • Handle emergency and crisis situations
  • May have contact with hazardous materials
