EES offers the opportunity to work with advanced technologies, global clients, and hundreds of the most innovative, talented minds in the industry.This senior earthquake engineer research position is responsible for leading and improving the development of the damage estimation component of EES earthquake models. These models cover worldwide regions and include multiple perils such as ground shaking, liquefaction, landslide, fire-following, sprinkler leakage, and tsunami. The damage estimation component quantifies the impact these perils on the built environment and society in terms of physical damage to properties (buildings and contents), loss of use (downtime), and human loss and casualty. The candidate will work closely with a team of structural and geotechnical engineers, seismologists, and specialists to perform model validation, deterministic and probabilistic risk assessment, and present and explain results to internal stakeholders and external clients.Evolving nature of research work at EES creates unique and challenging problems that spark innovation and growth for Verisk and creates opportunities for its employees. A successful candidate should have a strong technical background in earthquake, structural, geotechnical, or civil engineering. Candidates are expected to be highly motivated, detail oriented, excellent team player, and capable of utilizing problem-solving skills to solve problems as new areas of modeling emerges.About the Day to Day Responsibilities of the RoleData acquisition (including post-event survey) and analysis to understand building inventory and their vulnerability in regions of interestPerform analytical studies on damage observations or synthesized data to develop fragility functions for a variety of assets subjected to earthquake shaking, liquefaction, landslide, tsunami, fire and etc.Use data from independent research to assess and validate model components and its overall performanceExplore process improvement and innovative ideas to improve modeling accuracy and efficiencyPresent Verisk models to technical and non-technical audiences and provide support to clients and staff as neededAuthor technical writing for internal and external publications
