SS&C Eze Head of Engineering (Head of Development)

Location: Boston, MA - Hybrid in office and Remote

SS&C Eze is seeking a Head of Engineering in its Boston headquarters. As the leader of our Engineering organization, the person will provide strategic direction and vision for the team and work collaboratively with the leads of the Product, Service, Sales and Marketing teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated leader to manage a strong team with deep domain knowledge and technical capabilities as they build software solutions designed to maximize investment and operational alpha for the entire institutional investment community . This role requires a self-starter with ability to motivate and guide others, with urgency, toward a common goal: someone who will champion new process and structure and mentor development leaders and staff.

What You Will Get To Do:
  • Oversee Engineering strategy and US-based Engineering resources across all SS&C Eze software products
  • Formulate, execute and articulate our software development philosophy and strategy
  • Set vision and direction for the team to drive technology and product innovation to exceed client expectations
  • Cross-organizational collaboration within SS&C to create best of breed solutions
  • Regularly update various stakeholders on this vision, strategy and progress
  • Push the boundaries of speed-to-market while maintaining world-class quality
  • Actively engage with product managers to set roadmaps, align priorities and monitor progress against an aggressive roadmap
  • Lead from the front line to achieve goals and commitments and exceed expectations
  • Actively seek to leverage leading-edge proven technology to improve or create new products

Day to Day:

As a senior leader you will lead multiple teams developing scalable, maintainable and testable services both software platforms. In some cases you will be utilizing the latest front-end and back-end technologies within a highly automated continuous integration/continuous delivery environment. In others, you will be modernizing the enterprise product line to continue to dominate its market. You will be responsible for defining and constantly improving engineering strategy while championing engineering's role in an Agile environment and showing a natural proclivity and enthusiasm for people management and career development.
  • Will lead multiple cross-functional software engineering teams to build and deliver sophisticated software across the two platforms
  • Collaborate with product managers to help translate complex business requirements into well-formed user stories and designs
  • Set technology vision for the organization and set architectural goals
  • Define performance and behavioral norms
  • Make development contributions that drive culture, strategy and technology vision
  • Design scalable, high performance distributed systems
  • Identify and adopt relevant technology to drive product goals
  • Drive quality practices including TDD, BDD and refactoring
  • Foster sustainable development
  • Drive operational excellence: ensure service KPIs and continuity
  • Conduct blame-free retrospectives; practice kaizen
  • Reinvent and simplify: reconceive established paradigms and reduce complexity
  • Foster a culture of innovation: encourage bottoms-up continuous improvement

Operations
  • Ensuring efficient operations of agile development teams located in the US (with dotted line responsibility for the India Engineering team)
  • Being directly responsible for establishing and managing the operating budget to maximize utilization of resources and delivery of products and solutions.
  • Participating in the strategic business and product planning process

Human Capital and Career Development
  • Manage, mentor, inspire and continue to build an engineering organization of 100+ engineers who have strong experience across our platforms
  • Provide leadership and motivation to the team to sustain high levels of productivity and morale
  • Ensuring the knowledge sharing of engineering best practices across departments; and developing and monitoring technical standards to ensure adherence to them.
  • Ensure that the necessary people, processes and systems are in place to accommodate growth, measure results, and minimize risk

What You Will Bring:
  • BS/BA - with 10+ years of experience in R&D in a leading software company
  • Masters (or comparable certification) a plus
  • Experience in FinTech or financial services strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of leading global and remote R&D teams developing industry enterprise software
  • Experience implementing best practices within an Agile Development environment a must
  • Highly knowledgeable in SaaS business model
  • Proven ability to influence change, build consensus and drive vision
  • Strong business, financial and technical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skill set
  • Comfortable/proven communicator
  • Exemplary project management and organizational skill required
  • Proven track record working with multiple teams (Development, Product Support, and Quality Assurance) to deliver products to multiple stakeholders (Clients, Sales, Service)

Technical Experience:
  • Demonstrated success leading complex software development organizations with highly complex and scalable products. Specific experience with client-server and preferably .NET architectures.
  • Proven leadership of large-scale software teams that have delivered great products on deadline as it relates to Docker, Kubernetes, & AWS.
  • Experience as a Director or Senior Manager in developing products and solutions around Windows, C#, C, AWS, etc.
