About the role:

The User Experience (UX) lead will be a senior member of the program team, working with vendors and stakeholders to implement a state-of-the-art, user-centric, web-based delivery of services to the workforce and employers of Massachusetts. In this role, the UX Lead will conduct market research and work with stakeholder groups to design a solution that ensures functionality and prioritizes the user experience. This role has been classified as a hybrid work position. Employee is expected to work on-site in our Boston area office part of the week and there will be times where staff will be required to be on site for key events, meetings or other efforts that require physical presence.

What you'll do:
  • Work with the program's software and service vendors to ensure their solution meets the requirements of the diverse user community and is cost-effective and maintainable
  • Support our's EMT efforts from procurement through the multi-phased (multi-year) implementation
  • Lead and perform user research (interviews, journey mapping, etc.) to ensure that user needs are met in terms of usability and accessibility
  • Work with development teams and vendors to ensure that the resulting solutions are considered models of usability and accessibility to all users and stakeholders
  • Translate user requirements into a highly usable responsive web-experience that uses plain and accessible language throughout the solution
  • Prioritize and advocate for the user experience, including accessibility, language, educational and cultural challenges
  • Ensure the systems built meet the standards of the Commonwealth, federal and state law, while also bringing innovation and commercial best practices to the systems

What we're looking for:
  • 5-7+ years of experience in large-scale, publicly facing state-of-the-art user-centric design, build and test of business operations and web-based computer systems
  • Extensive knowledge in current trends, products and methodology for architecting, creating and directing state-of-the-art user experiences and maintainable web user experiences
  • A detailed practical and theoretical understanding of user-centered design
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to understand and advocate for a wide range of user needs
  • Strong interest in public service and the desire to improve life for the employers and workforce of Massachusetts
  • Highly collaborative with various groups such as the state team
  • Willingness to be a member of a team where everyone takes on any tasks necessary to get the job done
  • Familiarity with web development, responsive design, and accessibility
  • Experience with a broad range of user experience design, implementation, accessibility and analytic tools
