We are currently hiring for the following position: Packaging Technician
Summary: The Packaging Tech reports directly to the Director of Brewing Operations and works in support of the Packaging Lead. We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our packaging team. We’re a rapidly growing brand specializing in the packaging of cans and kegs and need a reliable person to help us continue that growth. We live and die by the quality of our beer. The process begins with brewing and ends with packaging. As a member of the packaging team, you are responsible for ensuring that the quality is maintained in anything related to packaging. You are the last of the production team to play a role in that beer reaching the customer, so for that reason we expect quality and consistency. You will be part of a team that is operating and maintaining a five head canning line, as well as filling kegs. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about craft beer, with a willingness to be a major part of out teams success.
Other duties may include keg cleaning, miscellaneous cellar tasks as needed, as well as the general upkeep of the production area and it’s equipment. No job is too big or too small for anyone at Widowmaker Brewing to complete. Members of the Packaging Team should expect to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, up to 12 hours per day if necessary, depending on the daily objective. Overtime may be performed as needed if management allows.
Packaging Tech is an hourly position supervised by the Director of Brewing Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Come in prepared to work. Understand the day's objective by communicating with the other Production team members through internal communication platforms as well direction from onsite management. Lead the packaging team in carrying out that work.
● Proper personal protective equipment is required to be worn during the entire shift.
● Understand and ensure that all carbonation guidelines are met for product before packaging.
● Ensure proper sanitary and safety protocols are always followed.
● Clean and maintain all equipment, as well as the work area.
● Ensure the correct formats are fulfilled according to packaging needs.
● The packaging team is responsible for troubleshooting or communicating issues or needs during a packaging run to ensure quality, any issue that can’t be directly resolved should be escalated to the Director of Brewing Operations.
● Perform regular quality control checks through out packaging run such as seam and weight checks.
● Assist in the upkeep and cleanliness in all areas of production, such as washing of equipment, floors, and tools to comply with company and government sanitation standards.
● Packaging Dates will be on a working schedule. Ensure that all packaging materials are on site and prepared before the packaging runs, such as pakteks, case boxes, lids, cans, kegs.
● Beer will packaged in kegs (1/6 or ½ bbl), 20 L one way kegs, cans and or bottles.
● Assisting in the cleaning and sanitizing of kegs.
● Ensure all packaged beer is properly palleted according to packaging splits to ensure timely delivery of product.
● Assist cellar and brewing team with daily tasks when needed.
● Ensure all packaging data is recorded accurately and communicated to the Director of Brewing Operations.
● Work with the Director of Brewing Operations to perform regular preventative maintenance on all equipment of canning line.
● Packaging lead is responsible for inventory and retrieving of all packaging materials from our offsite warehouse. All packaging materials to be in house the Friday before a packaging week.
Other Requirements:
● Follow all SOPs and safety protocols.
● Participate in Widowmaker events such as tastings, festivals, off premise and on-premise events.
● Must be reliable and prompt.
● Undivided attention on the daily tasks at hand.
● Communicate clearly with coworkers and managers, verbally and written.
● Frequent problem solving.
● Understand proper set up of jockey box, as well as breakdown and cleaning of jockey box.
● At least one year of experience in a production brewing facility, specifically packaging.
Physical Requirements:
● Consistently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 70 pounds to chest height.
● Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling and reaching.
● Must be able to stand for the entire shift, up to ten hours.
● Work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment and materials.
● Climb stairs several times a day
