Interim Director (565 Boylston Street, Boston MA)

Massachusetts, Boston 00000 Boston USA

Vacancy expired!

WHO WE ARE

The Community Church of Boston (CCB) is a free community united for the study and practice of universal religion, seeking to apply ethical ideals to individual life and the democratic and cooperative principle to all forms of social and economic life. The church, which is affiliated with the Unitarian/Universalists, began in 1920 and will have its 100th anniversary in 2020. We have approximately 45 members, a 9-person board, and 3 volunteer committees. The church has five part-time staff: office and publications coordinator; cook and custodian; program administrator; building superintendent; accountant/bookkeeper. We welcome anywhere from 10-60 attendees depending on the program.

The primary activity of the church is its Sunday forum program, which features a weekly speaker on a social justice topic. Music is always an important part of the CCB programs. A full lunch by the cook is served at a congenial social hour. The church often hosts evening forums, sometimes as a joint sponsor with other social justice organizations. We do not currently have a minister. Most of the programs are currently lay led. The church owns the building and rents the first floor for income. Additional space is rented to non-profits as well as occasional use of the auditorium. A major challenge is to increase membership and active participation of the congregation.

INTERIM DIRECTOR OVERVIEW

The church seeks a seasoned Interim Director to oversee a variety of areas, for an initial 5-7 months, approximately 2-3 days per week, with a mid-point review for CCB progress in achieving the described goals. The interim Director will organize and oversee administration and operations, supervise staff, review job descriptions, support year-end evaluations, complete an organizational assessment, work to build member involvement, and strengthen committee work.
