About this role

Biogen is a pioneering leader in developing therapeutics against challenging neurological disorders. To support these therapeutic programs, the TIVS group is involved in the design and execution of preclinical studies in rodent models. The successful candidate will join a team whose aim to is to evaluate a broad range of CNS delivery formulations and technologies, using in vivo bioluminescence (BLI) as the primary readout. We are seeking a motivated individual who will lead the BLI effort, as well as provide surgical support, dosing, tissue harvest, immunohistochemistry, ddPCR, and data analysis

The Translational In Vivo Sciences (TIVS) group at Biogen in Cambridge, MA is seeking an Associate Scientist to support in vivo studies of our preclinical mouse platforms. As an Associate Scientist, you will play an important role in the evaluation of central nervous system (CNS) delivery technologies for Biogen’s various therapeutic modalities, such as antisense oligonucleotide, gene therapy and small molecules.

The projects are highly collaborative across multiple organizations within Biogen, and this position offers the opportunity for the right individual not only to perform highly critical studies for the advancement of Biogen’s therapeutic programs, but to contribute to novel platform development in response to new program priorities

As the Associate Scientist, you can manage multiple scientific projects simultaneously, while at the same time being flexible to changing study needs. You have a strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • BS in Biology, Neuroscience or related field, and 5+ years relevant experience
  • A basic knowledge of neuroscience
  • Extensive hands-on experience with laboratory mice, including dosing (IP, IV and PO) and tissue collection
  • Strong organizational skills, minimally with Microsoft Excel, ideally with analytical software such as Prism
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to clearly communicate scientific results and to maintain detailed written records on ELN
  • Previous experience with in vivo bioluminescence imaging is desired
  • Other desirable experience includes mouse stereotaxic surgery, molecular biology (RNA/DNA extraction and qPCR/ddPCR), and histology (perfusion, cryo-sectioning, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy)
