Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated associated scientist to join our Small molecule protein science group starting immediately. The successful candidate will be part of a fast-paced and innovative environment actively pursuing unmet medical needs in the neuroscience space. The primary focus of this role will be to express and purify proteins or protein-protein complexes from E.coli, insect and/or mammalian cells. The candidate will also possess the ability to carry out small and large-scale protein purifications. The individual will have the opportunity to work in cross-functional teams (biophysics, structural biology) and should be able to clearly communicate their results and accomplishments to a broad audience at team meetings and in written reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in biosciences or related discipline and 1-3 years of relevant experience in an industrial or academic lab.
  • Be a great team player with strong communication skills and passionate about science.
  • Possess working knowledge of construct design and basic molecular biology (PCR & cloning)
  • Execute small scale expression and purification of proteins from E. coli, insect or mammalian hosts. The individual should also have considerable experience working in a tissue culture lab (insect and mammalian).
  • Experience using large scale purification systems such as Akta Express, Avant or equivalent protein purification instruments will be an asset.
  • Must be adept at following established protocols for multi-step purifications and should exhibit independence in protein purification. The candidate should also possess the scientific understanding behind the protocols and be able to modify them when the need arises.
  • The candidate should be willing to quickly learn new techniques and apply them readily to ongoing projects. The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Clear scientific presentation skills at project and team meetings are a must.
  • Must be excellent in organization, documentation and communication skills. The candidate is expected to document all aspects of the experiments performed and be able to conduct independent online research to collect and archive all necessary information for the projects in hand.
  • Innovative approaches to problem solving will be highly valued.
