About This Role

As an R&D Portfolio Director you will be a core member of the R&D Strategy, Portfolio Operations and Communications (SPOC) team and will lead the development, refinement, communication, and execution of disease area strategies to achieve portfolio goals. You will drive the portfolio prioritization process and portfolio evolution strategy in collaboration with the Development Unit and Research Unit heads within R&D. As a matrixed leader, you will collaborate cross-functionally across R&D leadership as well as with key stakeholders in Corporate Strategy, Finance, Business Development, Medical, and Global Product Strategy and Commercialization.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development, refinement, communication, and execution of disease area strategies with the organization to achieve portfolio goals
  • Drive the portfolio prioritization process and portfolio value growth strategy in collaboration with disease area heads and the R&D leadership team
  • Partner with the Research Unit / Development Unit heads to establish strategy, develop priorities, and manage departmental resources within the assigned Research Unit / Development Unit portfolio
  • Build and curate a disease area strategy core team across the organization to support creation, evolution and implementation of disease area strategic plans
  • Track and align resources to disease area and portfolio priorities in collaboration with the Business Operations and Finance teams
  • Lead the communication of disease area strategy, pipeline, and priorities within R&D in collaboration with the Communication team
  • Build a culture of portfolio stewardship and project team empowerment working closely with Program Leadership, R&D Governance, the R&D Leadership Team and the R&D Project Leader Council

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, Ph.D.) preferred, ideally with a scientific focus
  • 8 -10+ experience in Biotech and/or Pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience (minimum 2 years) in program management
  • Experience (minimum 2 years) in strategy development
  • Experience (minimum 2 years) in clinical development, medical affairs development or commercial development
  • Ability to work with agility, taking multi-faceted approaches to transfer knowledge and know-how, and form teams for follow-through
  • Financial acumen, with an ability to evaluate budgets accounting, business case development

Additional Information

Positioned on R&D Leadership Teams and embedded within the R&D Strategy, Portfolio Operations, and Communication organization, the Portfolio Director will partner with the R&D Program Leadership Leader.Position requires close collaboration with Governance, RDPL Council, RDPLs, Project Managers, Finance, Business Operations, and Functional Portfolio Director / Business Strategist colleagues.
