ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (EMP) OFFICER, Environment, Health and Safety Office (EHS), to function as an integral member of the multidisciplinary EHS Office, providing technical support to all EHS program areas. Will oversee MIT’s compliance with SPCC stormwater and wastewater regulatory programs; serve as a back-up for air, hazardous waste, and MCP programs; participate in EHS programs, both within and outside area(s) of expertise; and develop the necessary expertise to integrate overall EHS programs into sustainable practices, policies, and guidelines. Responsibilities include assisting clients with problem solving; keeping abreast of pertinent EHS regulations/developments and evaluating their impact on MIT; participating on an Institute-wide EHS management system that integrates compliance, sustainability, and education; participating in or leading committees/teams/study groups; assisting with developing and implementing general EHS programs and training; leading/conducting accident/incident investigations; reviewing/analyzing EHS aspects of planned and ongoing academic research/experiments; working with Facilities to achieve regulatory compliance; participate in the EHS emergency response on-call rotational system to resolve EHS issues and serve as the EMP subject matter expert to emergency response groups; and perform other duties. May provide occasional direction to an assistant EHS officer, technologist, or technician.Job RequirementsREQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in EHS-related discipline, e.g., environmental, engineering, physical science, or biological/chemical science; at least four years’ relevant experience in EHS programs focused on recognition, evaluation, and control of hazardous materials, conditions, and physical agents; eligibility for CHMM; evidence of leadership and ability to develop and implement well-integrated EHS programs within the workplace; knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations; effective written and oral communication skills; and basic proficiency with computers and databases.
