Job Description

The Head of Governance, Risk and Control provides strategic direction and leadership for risk management, business process optimization and knowledge management across Worldwide Medical. This high impact leadership role will engage across all functions of Medical and the Company including global and affiliate personnel, Corporate Compliance, Internal Audit, R&D Quality and Compliance, and Global Learning to manage risk and lead consistent and compliant operational effectiveness and efficiency most effectively.

The Head of Governance, Risk and Control must possess strategic vision, excellent communication skills, proven motivational capabilities, have an executive presence, and a demonstrated track record of delivering results and achieving goals.

Select Responsibilities Include:

  • Promote a highly ethical, compliant, and accountable culture that encourages and enables Medical employees to raise potential and actual areas of concern.
  • Develop a multi-faceted approach for identifying issues with and opportunities for existing processes, potential improvements, and the development of new processes.
  • Strategically lead, assess, and conduct Medical’s risk assessment, which incorporates auditing/monitoring findings, into Medical’s training/communication, knowledge management, and self-assessments.
  • Perform root cause analysis, problem solve, articulate conclusions, and make recommendations to the leadership team.
  • Engage cross-functionally across the organization to design solutions, develop test and implementation plans, drive results, and resolve issues encountered by the team
  • Implement and manage tools to track and report key risk, quality and training metrics across the global organization. Collaborate with Medical process owners to review Key Quality Indicators and tolerance thresholds.
  • Prepare material and presentations for the business in a way that adds value, is easily understood by others who may not have the same background or expertise and improves the operational efficiency of the business.
  • Communicate and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Foster regular communication and increase collaboration between the global organization and affiliates.
  • Identify and develop standard templates/toolkits related to processes, training and metrics for affiliates to leverage.
  • Identify and share best practices across the Medical worldwide.
  • Oversee quality management within Medical: including oversight to Sunshine reporting; assisting with Audit (Internal and Quality) readiness, issue response, and remediation validation.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the Medical Onboarding program to ensure new hires have the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviors to become effective contributors to the organization as quickly as possible.
  • Maintain and continuously improve strategies and processes designed to effectively identify, document, communicate, update Medical’s Knowledge Management.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industry and prior risk management (e.g. Internal Audit, Corporate Compliance, R&D Quality and Compliance, etc.) experience required
  • Education: B.A. required, MBA, M.A., M.S. preferred
  • International experience preferred as this is a global role
  • Prior experience within Medical function preferred
  • Project management experience required

Additional Information

The Director of Governance, Risk & Control is aglobal facing position will be accountable for Annual WM Risk Assessments (20%),Audit and Inspection Support (20%), Written Standards Development & Oversight (10%),Training Support and Oversight (10%),Issue Management (10%)and People Management and Development (10%). This role will be based at our Cambridge, MA campus.
